Mott MacDonald Canada is currently involved in several major infrastructure projects in the rail and transit realms. We are currently seeking Systems Engineers to complement our team and assist with infrastructure assignments for public and private-sector clients.

This role will report to the Rail Systems Lead in Toronto or Vancouver. To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Working with other Systems Engineering team members and with multi-discipline project staff on the delivery of key Systems Engineering processes and practices within MM’s North American practices.
  • Lead the Systems Engineering elements of proposals and projects within Mott MacDonald Canada, including system architecting, requirements development, use cases, configuration management, and Verification/Validation.
  • Produce systems engineering plans and approaches tailored to client requirements
  • Develop system architecture definitions of complex systems
  • Support system integration activities on complex projects
  • Support RAMS analyses and system safety assurance (safety certification) activities
  • Support of construction activities from the office and in the field
  • Apply configuration management practices throughout the systems engineering lifecycle
  • Assist in the commissioning and setting to work of Rail Control systems
  • Interaction with, and direct support to colleagues across Mott MacDonald
  • Work with key delivery partners and service providers for projects.
  • Engage with end clients as and when necessary

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering/Science (preferably Software/Engineering Physics/Systems Engineering).
  • P.Eng in AB, BC or Ontario, or eligible for certification
  • 6 - 10 years of progressive experience in Systems Engineering with significant experience in rail and transit projects.
  • Demonstrable strength in a minimum of two of the following (with working knowledge of the remainder):
    • Systems Architecting
    • System Integration
    • Use Case development
    • Integration and Interface Management
    • Requirements Engineering
    • Configuration Management
    • Verification and Validation
    • IEC 15288
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communications skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to plan, lead and document technical meetings and conversations with clients, contractors, suppliers and regulators
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team.
  • Able to elicit and empathize with diverse perspectives on not just technical, but also organizational, operational, environmental and social issues influencing mobility systems
  • Able to hold competent technical discussions with Client representatives
  • Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner.
  • Broad experience of delivery within major infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of railway systems and / or operation within infrastructure projects / technology development and implementation projects.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $92,000 - $117,000
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
