About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to lead the commercial and technical delivery of high‑profile projects across our portfolio. This role involves full lifecycle project management, from initial planning and bid development through to execution, delivery, and close‑out, while ensuring alignment with Mott MacDonald’s quality, safety, and risk management standards.

On larger and more complex projects, you may take on the role of Project Manager, providing strategic leadership and oversight. You will also play a key role in managing and producing proposals, as well as building and maintaining strong client relationships to support ongoing and future work.

Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead end‑to‑end project delivery from kick‑off to completion, ensuring successful outcomes in line with Mott MacDonald’s processes and governance frameworks.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain robust systems for managing project cost, schedule, scope, quality, risk, and controls.
  • Implement effective information and document management procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure health, safety, and quality standards are consistently met, working closely with the Health and Safety Manager to communicate risk mitigation plans and prevent hazards.
  • Monitor progress against key milestones and performance indicators, proactively addressing risks and issues.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly client progress reports and presentations.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of bids and proposals, ensuring timely submission of high‑quality technical and commercial responses.
  • Mentor, coach, and support team members, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance work environment.
  • Review project compliance with the Group’s management system and report findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, particularly with key clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Candidate Specification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Relevant experience, preferably within a design consultancy or similar professional services environment.
  • Professional qualification and/or membership of a recognised engineering or project management institution is preferred.
  • Proven experience planning, organising, and delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong practical and commercial approach to project management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Project management certifications (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, APM) are advantageous.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing technical and commercial proposals.
  • Strong commercial, contractual, and risk management awareness.
  • Confident engaging with and presenting to clients at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel for short‑term assignments, as required.
