Mott MacDonald is growing its North American water practice and is seeking a Water Market Leader based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This role will lead the growth and development of our water business in Eastern and Central Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and the broader Mid-Atlantic region, while supporting strategic initiatives throughout North America.

The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding Mott MacDonald's market presence with municipal utilities, investor-owned utilities, water authorities, counties, municipalities, and state agencies. This is a significant leadership opportunity to shape the future of our regional water business and drive sustainable growth across planning, design, program management, and construction services.

The role will work closely with the North America Water Market Leader, regional market leaders, practice leaders, account leaders, and multidisciplinary teams across water, wastewater, stormwater, resilience, transportation, energy, and environmental services.

As a visible internal and external ambassador for Mott MacDonald, the Philadelphia Water Market Leader will foster a high-performing culture while developing strong client relationships and delivering strategic growth throughout the Mid-Atlantic region

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic growth plan for the Mid-Atlantic water market with the focus on Eastern and Central Pennsylvania, in coordination with the North America Water Market Leader and technical discipline leaders.
  • Lead client engagement and business development, including identifying opportunities, generating leads, and maintaining relationships with clients and regulators.
  • Mentor and grow a team of water professionals - providing guidance, development opportunities, and input on promotions, salaries, and training.
  • Manage and advise Discipline Leads, ensuring effective team structure, succession planning, and ongoing coaching.
  • Oversee project delivery, ensuring initiatives and projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Identify and recruit local engineering talent, working with the Resource Manager and Talent Acquisition to plan resourcing, hiring, and long‑term capability growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high‑performing culture aligned with Mott MacDonald values.
  • Coordinate with Development, Strategic Market, Practice, and Account Leaders to ensure a consistent and proactive approach to BD, pursuits, and client engagement across the Division.
  • Develop and execute strategies to drive growth, improve performance, and strengthen market presence.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership in upholding ethical standards, governance policies, and compliance with company procedures.
  • Provide visible, strategic leadership, supporting senior leadership with guidance, coaching, and informed decision‑making.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the water sector and broader Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (A/E/C) industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain reciprocity.
  • Strong established relationships with municipal water and wastewater utilities, investor-owned utilities, counties, municipalities, and regional agencies throughout Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Proven track record of client development, account management, and winning major infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex engineering programs.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic business development plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence and inspire teams across multiple offices and disciplines.
  • Experience managing large capital programs, design-build projects, and alternative delivery pursuits.
  • Active involvement in industry organizations such as AWWA, WEF, ASCE, ACEC, or similar professional associations.
