As a proudly employee-owned business, we benefit our clients, our communities, and each other, investing in creating the right space for everyone to feel empowered, included, and valued. About the division
Environmental and social considerations are central to Mott MacDonald’s Purpose and its offerings across all sectors and territories. Our environment and social business provides essential services and innovative solutions which anticipate our clients' needs across all sectors.

Overview of the role

Energy is a priority growth market for Mott MacDonald and our Environment, Nature and Consents (ENC) Division’s fastest-growing portfolio, with established positions across power generation, networks, renewables, nuclear and emerging infrastructure and an ambition to double in size by 2030.

We are looking for a client-focused, commercially astute leader who has leadership experience in the UK energy market and can turn established relationships and insight into profitable growth. As Energy Portfolio Manager, you will shape compelling environmental and consenting propositions, strengthen our position in priority growth areas and set the future direction for our energy business. This influential, client-facing role combines clear portfolio accountability with collaboration across market, client and specialist teams to deliver lasting value for our clients.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

Growth, clients and work winning

  • Set and deliver the Energy portfolio strategy and growth plan, aligned with ENC and wider Mott MacDonald priorities.
  • Build strong relationships with priority clients, working with Client Directors to understand their needs, shape opportunities and foster client care through delivery.
  • Lead strategic pursuits and bid decisions, focusing investment where client value, future opportunity and our right-to-win are strongest.
  • Strengthen client propositions through market insight, digital innovation and effective relationships with strategic and delivery partners.

Leadership and collaboration

  • Build and maintain senior relationships across Mott MacDonald and with external partners to unlock opportunities and deliver the best outcomes for clients.
  • Lead the portfolio team and translate future demand into priorities for capability, recruitment, resourcing, partnerships and digitally enabled services and delivery.
  • As a member of the ENC Strategy Board, bring energy-market insight into divisional priorities, investment and capability decisions and report clearly on performance, risk and corrective action.

Candidate specification

Requirements:

  • Senior leadership experience in energy, environment, complex major infrastructure projects, planning, permitting, consenting, environmental assessment or related disciplines.
  • A strong record of developing profitable growth plans and leading successful pursuits and proposals.
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen with experience of being accountable for revenue, profit, forecasting, investment and financial performance.
  • Experience in overseeing projects or programmes and intervening effectively on mobilisation, delivery, commercial or client issues.
  • Strong judgement in prioritising investment and focusing where future opportunity, pipeline and right-to-win are strongest.
  • Excellent collaborative leadership skills, including building senior client relationships and managing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing teams, future capability and services to match clients’ needs.

Why join us?

This is a visible opportunity to shape one of ENC’s most important growth portfolios, build future capability and connect environmental and consenting expertise with major client and programme opportunities.

The role can be based at any Mott MacDonald office in the UK, with travel to offices and client meetings. Flexible working arrangements are supported.
