At Mott MacDonald New Zealand, our Water team works at the heart of some of the country’s most critical infrastructure — helping communities access safe drinking water, protect waterways, and plan resilient systems for future generations.
We’re looking for our next cohort of graduate engineers to join our Water team, as we continue to support New Zealand’s growing cities and respond to climate and resilience challenges.
The Water team
Our Water team provides advisory, planning, modelling and design services across:
- Drinking water supply
- Wastewater and stormwater networks
- Water treatment and conveyance infrastructure
- Digital modelling and network performance
We combine local expertise with global capability to deliver practical, future‑focused solutions. As part of the team, you’ll work alongside specialists in civil, mechanical, electrical and modelling disciplines, supported by experienced mentors and technical leaders.
Examples of our recent New Zealand water projects include:
- Rosedale Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Snell’s Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Network Performance Modelling and Monitoring (NP2M / N2PM) programme with Watercare
- Auckland Council stormwater AI modelling and machine learning
- Digital and data‑driven solutions supporting smarter water networks
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for fourth‑year students pursuing graduate roles in:
- Civil Engineering
- Hydraulic Modelling
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
Your Graduate Programme
Our Asia Pacific, New Zealand, and Australia (APNA) program includes a variety of non-technical workshops (formal learning), Early career professional committee activities, self-paced learning, and networking opportunities.
In your first year of the program, you will get to know us, your team, our sectors, and life in consulting. We provide tools and resources to build interpersonal skills, develop professional and social networks and gain an understanding of our company, our ways of working and our industry.
In year two of the program, the focus is on establishing your reputation and we spend time refining interpersonal skills, understanding self and adapting communication styles to influence and drive positive outcomes. In the final year of the program, we shift to greater independence with less formal learning and focus on building a profile in and outside of our business.
