About the division
The Water Consultancy Division is the centre of excellence within Mott MacDonald for responding to water and wastewater challenges, providing support to colleagues across our global business, and offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work.

Climate change, aging assets, and population growth place increasing pressure on our water and wastewater assets. Our highly successful water consultancy business is servicing ever-increasing demands from water sector clients to help deliver ambitious capital programmes. With sustainability, social impacts, digitalisation, and carbon reduction in mind, our diverse and multi-disciplinary teams work together to provide a variety of services throughout the full project life-cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision.

Our Water Consultancy Division has ambitious growth plans in line with AMP8 investment needs and we are proud of our strong reputation in the industry which is allowing us to expand our business.
Having been appointed to a large UK water consultancy framework in 2024, we are looking for a new Programme Delivery Manager. This strategic position requires someone keen to build on the good work done in establishing our position on this framework and continue the development and diversification of our business there, to provide long term profitability and high quality support to our client.
This is a key leadership role on the framework and will involve being the main client contact for all design services. The candidate will be responsible for establishing key communication channels between the client, design teams and commercial managers and take accountability for ensuring services are delivered to programme, budget and required quality.
The role is expected to develop and evolve in line with the framework requirements and the candidates’ own skills and development areas. It offers an excellent progression route towards senior leadership for suitable candidates.

Candidate Specification

Required skills and experience:

  • Chartered with a relevant institution
  • Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi-disciplinary teams as well as Client teams
  • Excellent at building and using internal networks.
  • Proven project management experience
  • Flexibility to travel regularly for client meetings.
  • UK water sector experience in delivering programme of works.

Desired skills and experience:

• Experience with NEC PS contracts
• Experience with CDM Regulations compliance
• Ability to proactively identify delivery issues and problem solving in a team environment.

Job Profile

The Programme Delivery Manager will sit within the leadership team of the framework working with the Framework Director, Framework Manager and the Design Managers.

The role provides the opportunity to take a lead on the technical direction of delivering the framework, working closely with our Client and our discipline leads to deliver innovative and value based solutions.

The scale of investment required in AMP8 is both a significant challenge but a major opportunity to provide a long-lasting legacy to our client and their region. It also requires new more efficient ways of delivering our services and for the successful candidate to demonstrate their ability to identify and implement innovations that maintain delivery to programme and commercial targets.

Key elements of the role will include taking a lead on and managing the following activities:

• Main point of contact for the client on all design services, activity managing and ensuring consistency of delivery and compliance with all relevant standards.
• Defining lines of communication and responsibility within the Design Team, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to ensure efficient use of resources and production of cost-effective solutions.
• Maintaining and monitoring the design programme ensuring that time, cost and resources are fully accounted for and that risks to progression are identified and dealt with in a timely manner.
• Ensuring that all design, design checking, professional skill, care and diligence and other compliance issues are certified accordingly.
• Working with Principal Designer to ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015.
• Developing and maintaining key client relationships,
• Agreeing framework contracts with subcontractors and assess their performance including health & safety.
• Advocating best value solutions for client and design teams.
• Be responsible for framework-level commercials and present them to Director Level.
• Liaising with client framework management & commercial lead.
• Assessing commercial incidents and lessons learnt.
• Managing and supports PMs with commercials.
• Advising on NEC contract and provide support to client on contractual/commercial issues.
