About the business unit

The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations and protecting our environment. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision.

Overview of role

  • Supporting or leading the technical delivery of asset management advisory projects, including frequent interaction with clients and working from within client environments.
  • Supporting or leading the development of project outputs, including investment business cases and reports.
  • Supporting or leading business development activities, including client engagement, preparing and managing project proposals.
  • Supporting asset management capability assessments and identifying areas for improvement
  • Leading project and budget management, including team coordination and ensuring compliance with PM procedures.
  • Undertaking identified training to support technical excellence
  • Undertaking data analysis to support project delivery
  • Mentoring junior members of the team

Candidate Specification

You will have experience in at least two of the following areas

  • Asset planning or asset strategy
  • Risk assessment and management
  • Investment appraisal or cost benefit analysis
  • Investment planning or investment programme optimisation
  • Resilience assessment and planning
  • Developing decision support tools
  • Performance monitoring/reporting
  • Some experience/knowledge of ISO 55000 or another ISO standard

Essential skills and experience

  • Degree qualified in an environmental or other relevant subject
  • Industry experience in asset management, ideally in a water company or consultancy
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills. This would include the ability to review complex documents, summarise and present the key issues in a clear and concise way.
  • Able to work within a team and motivate others to deliver to high standards
  • Project management, client liaison and consulting skills · Willingness to undertake assignments throughout the UK, as well as short international visits

Desired skills and experience

  • Certificate or Diploma in Asset Management from the Institute of Asset Management
  • Assurance/audit experience including experience of ISO auditing.
  • Commercial awareness and project proposal preparation.
  • Organisational change management
  • Chartership with a relevant environmental or asset management professional institution
  • Industry experience and/or willingness to actively embrace on and off the job training in additional areas such as decarbonisation, climate resilience, systems thinking, nature-based solutions and/or circular economy.
  • A broader awareness of other environmental and social discipline
