Job Description

Commercial Counsel

We established Mind Foundry to ensure that AI can be used to radically transform our world for the better. To do this, we design intelligent tools that are easy to understand and easy to use. Born within the University of Oxford’s Machine Learning Group and founded by world-leading academics Professors Stephen Roberts and Mike Osborne, we empower teams with responsible AI solutions. We tackle high-stakes problems that help organisations in the public and private sectors, focusing on human outcomes and the long-term impact of AI interventions.

We are currently looking for a highly-skilled and versatile Commercial Counsel to join our legal team due to business growth and a need for additional dedicated internal resources. This is an opportunity to work in a rapidly evolving field, at the intersection of law and cutting-edge technology. This role is full/part time with flexible hours: we will need you to be responsive during the working day Monday - Friday so we can manage the expectations of customers and our sales team but you will have full control of the hours that you actually do the work. Your role will sit within the Operations function and report to CFOO, with access to support by team members as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal guidance on a range of commercial and corporate matters, such as intellectual property, data privacy, contract law, employment law, and regulatory compliance. Experience in the Defence & Security sector would be beneficial but not a necessity.

  • Negotiate, draft, and review commercial agreements, including technology licensing agreements, vendor agreements, NDAs, partnership agreements, and more.

  • Advise the executive team on legal matters and strategies to enable sound business decisions.

  • Monitor and keep the team updated about important changes in laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the AI industry.

  • Act as a liaison between our company and external legal entities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A law degree (LLB) from an accredited law school and licence to practise law in the UK.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in corporate law, ideally to include enterprise software and SaaS contracting the tech sector.

  • Deep understanding of commercial law and the legal aspects of technology transactions.

  • Knowledge of the legal and ethical considerations surrounding AI and data is highly desirable.

  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Outstanding communication skills and a capacity to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritise, and work well in an entrepreneurial environment prone to rapid change and growth.

We understand that no single person can do it all and we don't expect everyone to be an expert in everything listed above. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence the future of AI, working with a team of passionate, like-minded professionals committed to innovation and excellence.

If you have a passion for law and technology and are ready to take the challenge of working in a dynamic and evolving sector, we would love to hear from you. Please apply with your CV and a cover letter detailing your interest and qualifications for the role.

Our company is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
