Job Description
Overview
As a Critical Environment CMMS Technician, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the operational integrity of Microsoft’s datacenters by managing and executing work orders through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). You will ensure that all preventive, corrective, and break-fix maintenance activities are accurately tracked, scheduled, and completed in alignment with compliance standards and operational protocols.
Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Critical Environment Technician, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Create, assign, and close work orders (WO) in CMMS for Break-Fix (BF), Incident (INC), Move/Mod (MM), and Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks.
- Navigate CMMS via DC Central, manage labor entries, equipment groups, and generate reports on technician hours and equipment history.
- Collaborate with planners and schedulers to build and maintain accurate maintenance plans, ensuring alignment with CE standards and scope items.
- Ensure all documentation (MOPs, SOPs, EOPs) is prepared and linked appropriately in CMMS. Record WO numbers in procedures and send notifications via DC Dashboard.
- Work closely with CE teams across shifts to complete rounds, assign shifts to WOs, and manage resource allocation effectively.
- Assist in the migration from legacy systems (e.g., Web TMA) to CMMS, including cleanup of work orders and reassignment to specific equipment.
- Track calibration schedules and link documentation via SharePoint. Maintain equipment grouping and tagging for accurate WO assignment.
- Understands, follows, and ensures safety and security requirements (e.g., job hazard assessments [JHAs], environmental health and safety (EH&S), toolbox talks), and business processes and procedures to properly perform work in a safe, quality, and reliable within Microsoft requirements.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) platforms and understanding of work order lifecycle.
- Familiarity with CE systems: electrical OR mechanical OR HVAC OR generators.
Background Check Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND 5+ years mission critical services experience (e.g., high-availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields)
- OR Associate's Degree or technical trade certification (e.g., military, trade school), or higher-equivalent education AND 4+ years mission-critical services experience (e.g., high-availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields)
- OR equivalent experience.
