What you'll bring to the team
Location: Thorpe Park, Staines Rd, Chertsey KT16 8PN
Where better to start your Engineering career than behind the scenes at Thorpe Park! In this role you will work alongside a team of highly skilled professionals, you will learn all about the Engineering, Maintenance, stores management, Asset management & Compliance at our Resort.
Supported by your studies, you will gain an understanding of the statutory and legislative requirements involved in always keeping our guests and business safe. As you develop within your role, you will always have Health & Safety as your number one priority, learning more about Merlin Entertainments and the amazing career you could have working with us!
We treat our people as individuals, so you will have a clear training and development plan from day 1 of joining us. We will ensure you are supported every step of the way through your apprenticeship, with both classroom and practical experience.
This is a full-time course which will run for around 3.5 years, starting in August 2026.
In this role you will gain a solid understanding of:
- Health, Safety and Risk Assessment including manual handling
- Analytical and scientific methods for Engineers
- Instrumentation and Control Principles and Applications
- Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
- Principles of attraction/ride maintenance strategy and daily, weekly, monthly, annual preventative maintenance
- Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic and Digital Principles, Processes and Applications
- Quality Management/Assurance Principles and Safety Management Systems
- Applications for Pneumatics and Hydraulics
- Destructive and non-destructive inspection techniques
- Ride and Attraction maintenance processes, principles and applications
- Principles of First Aid and supporting the evacuation of customers
Qualifications & Experience
- Has at least 5 GCSE’s at C/4+ including Maths (These can include predicted grades).
- Energetic and proactive with a passion for engineering and a willingness to learn and develop within our resort engineering department.
- You will need to demonstrate self-discipline in your approach to both your academic studies and your workplace responsibilities, including punctuality and attendance.
- Excellent attention to detail - the role requires the diagnosis and repair of complex mechanical and electrical problems
- You must have excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- A “can do” attitude and endless energy and enthusiasm for the role and our unique business
- You have an analytical mindset - willingness to learn and grow and embrace future technology and use it to develop your own future skills
