The opportunity:
The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radiation Effects (RE) department is split between a test team working hands on in our state-of-the-art EMC Facility to simulate environments, and several highly skilled project teams embedded across all projects within MBDA. These teams cover a range of areas including: EMC requirements, test planning, design guidance, electromagnetic modelling and simulation and Radiation Effects assessment.
This role is within our Digital and Radiation Effects project team, investigating and/or deploying novel digital proving techniques and methodology. This includes quality assurance processes for electromagnetic modelling and simulation such as Verification and Validation (V&V).
You will be part of a collaborative team establishing, progressing and delivering risk reduction and qualification strategies that will bring products into service more efficiently – while maintaining the required level of assurance. In addition, you will be provided the opportunity to learn from, and work with, EMC project engineers in parallel teams. This may include writing Environmental Requirement Specifications (ERS’s) and subsequent documentation, or hands-on review of hardware with some investigative testing.
What we're looking for from you:
Essential
- Higher education or significant experience within subject fields: Electronics, Electrical, Physics, EMC or similar
- Experience of either Finite Element Method (FEM), Finite Integration Technique (FIT) simulation solvers or similar. Demonstratable experience within any of the above subject fields is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and knowledge of electronic technologies
- Experience with SPICE simulation tools
- Ability to work to defined deadlines and within budget limits
Desirable
- Electromagnetic (EM) simulation solvers such as CST Studio and ANSYS HFSS
- Verification and validation (V&V) experience of numerical solvers
- Either of the above in a defence context
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience in any package
- Good understanding of Radiation Effects, EMC or EMC design
- Previous experience in delivering support around the subject of EMC. We encourage those without explicit EMC experience to apply, as training will be provided in your role
- Experience in electronic design, development and delivery
- Knowledge in the application of a military EMC standard to system, sub-system or equipment levels (e.g. Defence Standard 59-114 / 59-411, AECTP500, Mil-Std-461, RTCA DO160 / EUROCAE ED-14)
