Principal Mechanical Engineer - Team Lead

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer who possesses drive, enthusiasm, and both creative and logical thinking. This role involves leading a mechanical team within the Sparkworks portfolio of programmes, providing essential technical and management support to the team.

Salary: Circa £60,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

You'll be providing technical oversight of the team’s work, ensuring the team develop viable mechanical conceptual designs. As the primary mechanical engineering interface into other key stakeholders on the project. Keeping track of budgets, workloads and ensuring tasks are delivered on time.

As the team lead you'll be providing day to day management support to the team and have responsibility for the development and performance management of the team.

This is a great opportunity to work in a fast paced environment, working on novel and disruptive technologies within Sparkworks. It will also be an initial step in to a management role which is a great opportunity for someone looking for the next step.

What we're looking for from you:

• Experience of mechanical design, early technology development, ideally taking parts through from conceptual design, through development and certification and people & project management experience.

• Relevant 3D CAD/CAE experience (training on our preferred CAE tools will be given)

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

• The ability to work with, influence and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.
