UK & Ireland VAT Accountant- Mars Corporate

Location: Slough, UK

Hybrid Working- 50%

Our UK & Ireland VAT Accountant will ensure accurate and complete VAT returns are prepared and submitted for Mars' UK and Irish entities.You will provide ongoing training and support to associates across the UK, Ireland, and Mars Global Finance Services (MGFS) central service centre to understand the VAT implications of their transactions so that Mars fulfills its legal obligations to UK and Irish tax authorities.

What are we looking for?

• ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified with proven relevant experience in VAT reporting or strong relevant VAT experience.
• Experience with UK VAT is essential.
• You will become involved with associates across all zones and all departments. We are looking for excellent interpersonal and communication skills and enjoy learning about new areas.
• As the business comes up with more complex transactions, you will be required to use initiative to be able to design suitable processes that will ensure we can account for the VAT impact correctly.
• You will require influencing skills to work with and train associates to understand their VAT liabilities.

What will be your key responsibilities?

• Responsible for VAT compliance of Mars’ UK and Irish VAT registrations ensuring VAT ledgers are correct.
• Work with all Mars UK and Irish sites to ensure VAT compliance. Provide ongoing training to Service & Finance (S&F) (including Mars Global Finance Services (MGFS)) associates who account for transactions with VAT implications so that VAT is correctly recorded and accounted for.
• Training Service & Finance (S&F) and non-Service & Finance (S&F) associates on the VAT implications for the business to ensure that we meet our legal responsibilities and that the business activities are VAT efficient.
• Resolve VAT queries from the business, tax authorities, customers, and suppliers so Mars is VAT compliant.
• Communicate any changes in VAT legislation to the relevant parts of the business and work with them to understand how to meet the requirements.
• Supervise completion, submission, and settlement of VAT returns prepared by UK and Ireland In Country Treasury Centres (ICTC), including review of VAT returns from units who prepare their VAT returns. This Includes:
  • Review VAT returns prepared by the UK VAT Specialists and decide on the appropriate VAT treatment,
  • Ensure all VAT queries are resolved, and VAT learnings are implemented in VAT and business units,
  • Regular review of VAT and business risks and processes to ensure VAT compliance,
  • Maintain technical library so that we can give up-to-date and correct advice on VAT legislation,
• Ensure VAT returns are compliant with Senior Accounting Office requirements.
• Drive digital efficiency Improvements to VAT process and controls.
• Support VAT set of new businesses and Integration of acquisitions.
• Support the In Country Treasury Centres (ICTC) community by Improving the efficiency of Ways of Working with business units and service centres and bringing learnings from other In Country Treasury Centres (ICTC) Into the UK In Country Treasury Centres (ICTC).
