The R&D Pilot Plant Coordinator is responsible for the effective day-to-day running of the R&D Pilot Plant facilities. The role involves control and monitoring of trials and equipment within the Pilot Plant to optimize efficiency, product quality and workplace safety and thereby sustain a professional, clean and fit-for purpose manufacturing environment. The role is key to assisting in the R&D teams with advancement of new products and technologies.

What will be your key responsibilities?

The R&D Pilot Plant co-ordinator has responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Ownership of Workplace Safety, Food Safety & GMP and ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the area

  • Supporting the Pilot Plant Technician B4, e.g. managing contractors and third parties coming into the Pilot Plant to deliver and service equipment

  • Preparing and executing non-routine risk assessment of process or prototyping activities when required

  • Ensuring CCP checks and microbiological checks are conducted along with quality checks prior to PCQI release of prototypes to ensure product is safe and fit-for-purpose

  • Being the functional expert and trainer for the SWORD raw materials and product traceability system

  • Ensuring efficient running of equipment to maintain full prototyping capability

  • Carrying out minor running adjustments to process equipment to ensure optimum capability and efficiency as well as minimise waste; if outside of scope of knowledge, use the escalation process to the Pilot Plant Technician to resolve an issue

  • Ensuring comprehensive records and logs are maintained and effective handovers are carried out

  • Challenging the norm to identify and propose ideas and solutions that will increase efficiency in the Pilot Plant, e.g. cost or time; support using problem-solving techniques through to completion using Lean and CI tools, e.g. 5S

  • Contributing, supporting and improving team performance by working collaboratively to share knowledge and best practices

  • Communicating and / or escalating issues / non-standard running conditions / non-conformity to the Pilot Plant Manager, Pilot Plant Technician or other associates and support staff

  • Creating and maintaining strong links with Mars Q&FS and Product Innovation teams to ensure all standards and best practices are applied in the Pilot Plant, R&D kitchens and laboratories
