Job Description

Job Description:

Site HSE Manager (f/m/x)

in Mars Snacking

Supply Department

Location: Mars Factory in Janaszówek

*On-site role*

At Mars, we believe our Associates are our greatest asset. Protecting their safety and supporting the communities in which we operate is at the heart of everything we do. As the Site HSE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in this mission – setting the site's HSE strategy and driving the critical programs that mitigate risks and ensure a safe, sustainable workplace.

Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will be a key member of the Site Leadership Team, holding overall responsibility for the strategic direction and daily management of Health, Safety, and Environment at the facility.

In this role, you won't work in a silo. You will partner with fellow leadership team members to align HSE goals with broader business objectives, while collaborating closely with Operations, Project Engineering, and Occupational Health & Wellness teams. To ensure your success, you will be fully supported by the Mars Regional HSE network as well as trusted third-party experts.

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Create and effectively communicate the site's HSE strategy, vision, and key objectives.
  • Develop and deploy local HSE standards and procedures tailored to the site’s operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant safety and environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead thorough investigations of HSE-related incidents, ensuring they drive to root cause and result in robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Drive timely resolution of non-conformities identified through internal audits or third-party inspections.
  • Leverage a data-driven approach to prioritize HSE activities, mitigate risks, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Deliver engaging training and coaching to ensure HSE expectations and best practices are fully understood and adopted across the site.
  • Provide expert HSE technical guidance, acting as a key advisor during capital project reviews and change management processes.
  • Equip and empower the Site Emergency Response Team with the necessary tools, skills, and scenarios to respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Manage and optimize the site HSE budget.
  • Oversee and execute the physical security requirements and protocols for the site.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory safety inspectors, environmental officials, and external auditors.

What are we looking for?

Education & Experience:

  • Proven track record of experience in a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
  • University degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field and officially recognized HSE qualifications/certifications.
  • Deep understanding of local HSE legislation, environmental permits, and compliance standards.
  • Experience in risk assessment methodologies, root cause analysis (RCA) of incidents, and implementing effective CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Ability to translate corporate HSE standards into a concrete site strategy. You are a data-driven decision-maker who uses metrics to prioritize activities and drive continuous improvement.
  • Crisis & Security Management: Experience in coordinating Emergency Response Teams (ERT) and managing physical security requirements for industrial sites.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven experience acting as the primary point of contact for external authorities, safety/environmental inspectors, and auditors.
  • Financial Acumen: Practical experience in managing and optimizing departmental/site HSE budgets.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • An Inspiring Communicator: You don't just enforce rules; you know how to effectively communicate the "why" behind HSE standards to build a strong safety culture.
  • Coaching & Training Mindset: Passion for delivering training, coaching teams, and elevating HSE awareness across all levels of the organization (from shop floor to site leadership).
  • Influence without Authority: Ability to act as a trusted technical advisor, providing expert input during capital project reviews and engineering changes.
