We have an exciting opportunity within our Global Care & Treats Packaging team, based in the Global Innovation Centre in Birstall. This role is critical to support the delivery of our sustainability packaging goals for Pet Nutrition and Mars.

What are we looking for?

  • University Degree or equivalent in a technical, science, engineering or packaging/product design subject

  • Experience in the area of packaging development, sustainability, packaging engineering or similar.

  • Experience of FMCG and/or flexibles packaging supply base an advantage.

  • Filling Technologies knowledge (material/machine interaction & understanding) would be an advantage

  • Familiarity with the interaction between product and packaging (e.g. migration, barrier props) and testing

  • Fluency in English (verbally and written)

This role might be right for you if you are a Packaging Technologist in the retail sector looking to specialise in sustainability or a Packaging Engineer with expertise in flexibles.

What will your key responsibilities be?

In this role you will be:

  • Sharing your expertise on the latest packaging technology and material expertise.

  • Conducting material evaluations and maintaining trial and test records.

  • Demonstrating your understanding of relevant legal and technical implications of the plastics strategy and to manage their impact on the material development strategy and roadmap in close cooperation with the GIC packaging team

  • Assessing and executing measurements and methods (e.g. through life cycle assessment) to evaluate the sustainability footprint of current and future packaging solutions

  • Delivering material development programs in order to to meet our 2025 plastics strategy targets in close cooperation with the central and regional packaging sustainability teams, the other Global Innovation Centres and potentially other segments

  • Working closely with the packaging team, with global quality and food safety teams, global engineering, and the specialized contacts in departments e.g. Marketing, Commercial, Supply and Customer Marketing Insights/Customer Technical Insights.

  • Developing your own knowledge of the latest packaging technology in order to remain informed about the most up-to-date technical standards, e.g. visiting seminars and trade fairs and by keeping in close contact with suppliers.

  • Proactively managing Intellectual Property risks and opportunities.

  • Providing high quality formal and informal communication on progress of projects.

  • Effectively managing project risks and informing and influencing the project team.
