About the role

As Indirect Tax Manager, you will join the In-Country Tax & Treasury Center (ICTC), a team of 17 tax, treasury and statutory accounting professionals supporting the Benelux and DACH region. Working closely with VAT Analysts in the Netherlands and Germany, you will be responsible for indirect tax matters across the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

This role offers a strong combination of business partnering and tax compliance, allowing you to advise stakeholders on complex VAT matters while ensuring accurate reporting and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

We're looking for a tax professional with 5-7 years of relevant indirect tax experience, gained either in a consulting environment or in-house. You are fluent in Dutch and English; German is a plus..

What are your key responsibilities?

  • Lead the VAT function for the ICTC cluster DACH and Benelux, including two direct reports
  • Be responsible for VAT compliance activities in the ICTC cluster, including performing hands-on compliance activities particularly in the Netherlands.
  • Analyze and renew current ways of working to ensure effective and efficient VAT processes.
  • Assist the ICTC Director in maintaining and further developing the Tax Risk Control Framework.
  • (Co)manage the relationship with the tax authorities
  • Lead indirect tax audits on behalf of Mars and be VAT point of contact towards local tax authorities.
  • Provide VAT support to and help the onboarding of newly acquired entities into the ICTC scope.
  • Act as a business partner and provide the analysis of indirect tax aspects of new business operations and initiatives.
  • Create VAT awareness within the organization and provide guidance to other departments.
  • Participate in Mars global tax projects and provide valuable tax support in order to reduce tax risks.

What are we looking for?

  • Excellent understanding of the key indirect tax concepts.
  • Proven leadership (line management) skills. Ability to lead in an internal and hybrid working environment.
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant tax experience (in-house and/or tax advisory practice).
  • Academic degree or a Bachelor degree in fiscal law or fiscal economics.
  • Good working knowledge of indirect tax consequences of international trade (particularly working experience in respect of cross-border flows of goods)
  • Good working knowledge of SAP/ERP systems is preferred.
  • Understanding and experience with introduction of European E-invoicing rules is preferred
  • Understanding of customs regulations is considered a benefit.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills in order to interact with finance staff and senior management.
  • Independent, enthusiastic, informal, perseverant and a self-starter.
