This global role provides scientific leadership for input into the strategic planning and execution of scientific and clinical research behind our services and products. Our aim is to ensure that key stakeholders including pet owners, pet-care professionals and policy makers have the right information to make informed decisions and take a proactive and evidence based approach to the health and wellbeing of pets. This role also engages our internal stakeholders with healthcare insight and expertise, ensuring scientific and clinical outcomes are accurately represented in external marketing and corporate affairs activations.

This role is key in supporting our reputation as a scientifically-driven organization and in achieving scientific leadership in the pet care space. This includes being a great place to work for veterinary professionals, scientists and data experts.

This role can be based from Waltham Petcare Science Institute, London or New York.

What are we looking for?

  • Expert technical knowledge and background in research in Life Sciences/Healthcare/Petcare area

  • Experience writing and critically reviewing manuscripts and abstracts related to pet health/ healthcare

  • Deep understanding of how to bring to life a company’s science focus through sharing scientific knowledge at congresses, peer-review journals, engaging with professional societies and/or policy-makers

  • Experience leading global health/medical advisory boards

  • Established relationships with global leaders in veterinary / pet health and veterinary professional societies

  • Ability to fluidly flex between high level strategy and detailed tactics as required

  • Strong analytical mind-set and ability to quickly assess large amounts of information to ensure science is helping to deliver on the business strategy

  • Integrity and high ethical standards

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Accountable for creation, development and deployment of the global scientific affairs strategy, business/resource planning and scientific activations (congresses, publication, KOL engagement) in collaboration with global R&D, Science and veterinary health leaders across the Petcare

  • Accountable for planning and execution of science activities at major scientific congresses,

  • Responsible for driving credibility by being on leading edge of state of science and shifts in pet health and science and ensuring that knowledge is disseminated with stakeholders, to support clinical trial and scientific enquiry

  • Contributes to the clinical trials strategy and planning and ensures the results are accurately translated for different audiences to ensure maximum leverage of science in service of the Mars Petcare purpose to make A Better World For Pets

  • Lead/participate in company-created scientific input forums (third parties, including consultants and scientific advisory boards)

  • Accountable for creation of appropriate Scientific Advisory Boards

  • Leader in the global science and R&D community to ensure global scientific affairs strategy is effectively communicated and executed across the Petcare business.

  • Responsible for partnering with Corporate Affairs, R&D and Science Communications teams across Mars Petcare to lead development and ensure execution of scientific affairs strategy

  • Accountable for input and review for all marketing and communications science content that help educate and engage veterinary and healthcare professionals and pet owners with scientific knowledge

  • Accountable for maintaining and developing synergistic relationships with veterinary societies and veterinary medicine academic institutions, nutrition experts, to expand research, advisory, and educational or business partnership opportunities

  • Collaborates with global cross functional teams to ensure the best integration of all science efforts across Mars Petcare, so that relevant people internally and externally are aware of and can use the knowledge appropriately

  • Responsible for ensuring a working knowledge of Food & Drug Administration, EU and other relevant regulatory requirements and policy forming entities as they relate to pet health care
