Global Strategic Sourcing Manager – Flexible Packaging (Remote considered)

Mars Petcare is seeking a Global Strategic Sourcing Manager to develop and deploy category strategy for flexible packaging worldwide! This role is part of the Mars Petcare Central Procurement Team and will align with our regional procurement /commercial leads and ensure approval by the Petcare Global Leadership Team.

As a member of the Central Category Team, this role will be accountable for

1) development & implementation of sustainability sources and supply related to packaging categories aligned to our sustainability objectives.

2) analyze and recommend appropriate global sourcing model for the flexibles category.

3) creation and deployment of the global category sourcing strategy and management of the global spend and supply base.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Minimum 7 years packaging buying experience, preferably in flexible packaging

  • Proven Knowledge of packaging technologies and materials

  • Previous strategy creation & execution experience using a strategic sourcing framework

  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and recycling compatibility

  • Cross-functional experience within a matrix organization

What will be your key responsibilities?

Category Expertise

  • Analyses the category spend and supplier base to determine the most appropriate sourcing model for the flexible packaging category e.g. decentralized, lead buyer, center-led network, centralized, etc.

  • Uses packaging category expertise and industry knowledge to suggest and implement a category strategy and sustainable alternatives that meet the company’s goal of making 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2025.

Strategy Development

  • Once the sourcing model is agreed, manages the category strategy for a global spend of >$300 million in flexible packaging using the MSSM methodology.

  • Ensures smooth deployment of the global strategy through the Mars regions and sites.

Supplier Relationship

  • Leads negotiations with global suppliers, selecting the appropriate path to market for flexible packaging as set by the category strategy and in tandem with regional commercial buyers.

  • Seeks to optimize supplier alignment decisions with regional collaboration in flexible packaging by leveraging volume, knowledge and supplier relationships.

  • Uses category knowledge to cost model packaging alternatives in support the sustainability initiatives and the flexible category.

  • Continuously develops strategic relationships to improve their value to the business and if appropriate, introduces the suppliers to the supplier relationship management program.

  • Manages strategic supplier quality and evaluates supplier performance.

  • Collaborates with regional Commercial associates, agreeing on ways of working in the organization.

  • Partners with Supply and R&D to ensure adequate external capacity is available for flexible packaging.

Stakeholder Management

  • Represents Commercial on key sustainability and sourcing work streams.

  • Escalates issues and conflicts to Global Category VP and regional Commercial VPs.

  • Establishes and maintains critical working relationships with R&D, Supply and S&F to ensure the success of the long-term category strategy.

Value Leadership

  • Identifies, scopes and drives central VL initiatives for innovation, sustainability, quality and cost savings.

  • Delivers the contracted performance and provides clarity on savings and split by region.

  • Systematically drives and aligns global cash optimization.

Knowledge Management

  • Participates in external benchmarking and industry forums to gain market intelligence.

  • Provides category input for Operating Plan/R&O to regions.

  • Is responsible for the general category and activity performance reporting to the regions on market development and risk management.

  • Understands, recommends and deploys best practices through the regional Commercial associates.

  • Develops and ensures regional compliance with proper procedures, policies, systems and controls.
