Reporting into the European Senior Search Manager, the European Retail Search Manager is responsible for the creation and deployment of the European Pet Nutrition Digital Retail Search strategy, playing a critical role in maximising the exposure and performance of the Mars online Petcare portfolio.

The European Retail Search Manager defines, guides the execution of, and measures performance onsite search strategy (SEO/SEM) with our European eCommerce customers (Amazon & Zooplus) local market key customers and cross-market search initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Retail Search Leadership:

  • Develop our paid and natural digital search strategy and activity evolution roadmap to improve Mars share of search across Europe with customers and maximize ROI

  • Manage strategic partners across Europe to drive onsite paid search campaigns for Amazon, Zooplus and local customers

  • Build a clear contact strategy with key retailers and search engine providers to understand our customer search algorithms to drive SEO

  • Identify “white space” search opportunities for Mars

  • Work with Mars IS and/ or external agencies to ensure the right capability & tools are in place to deliver this Search Strategy

  • Lead, inspire and motivate the organization behind this Search Strategy

Retail Paid Search:

  • Lead the agency relationships for the region to drive paid search plans and project execution.

  • Provide the customer team with data-based search performance insights, continuously align on business priorities and how these translate to search actions.

  • Maintain and evolve the existing processes, templates, tools and reports in place for effectively managing, evaluating and continuously improving the paid search activities

  • Execute tests, collect and analyse data, identify trends and insights in order to achieve maximum short term ROI and structurally improve long term account performance.

  • Manage campaign expenses, staying on budget, estimating monthly costs and reconciling discrepancies

Retail Natural Search:

  • Work with the Account Managers, Content Managers and PDS Managers to define processes and execute priority projects; optimising copy, taxonomy and product pages.

  • Lead the agency relationships for the region to drive natural search plans and delivery

  • Build our capability in creating a keyword library and continuously updating this with keyword discovery, expansion and optimisation

Retail Search analysis & measurement:

  • Work with the Digital Analysts and agencies to track, report, and analyze digital shelf analytics for natural and paid search

  • Provide periodic insights into our performance and how we are continuously evolving our SEO/SEM plans in line with industry trends and retailer search engines

  • Research and analyze competitor search performance, strategy and activities

  • Define search analysis requirements and work with global teams to build required functionality / views in the PIE digital analytics environment

Market Trends

  • Monitor and communicate relevant market trends to internal and external stakeholders

  • Develop and ensure these key trends are capitalized on and built into Mars’ on-going strategy.

  • Develop/understand Global and Local Category best practices and transfer knowledge to Europe for implementation. Transfer European Search success to Global and Local Teams.

Context and Scope

  • Lead, inspire, motivate and influence a large and cross functional array of internal stakeholders (European Business Analyst, the European Pricing & S&F Manager, European PDS Champion, the European Customer KAMs, the European Content Manager, the European Shopper Marketing Manager and the local market teams) to deliver the Retail Search strategy
