Mars Petcare is looking to hire a Training Lead for our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Henderson, North Carolina.

The Training Lead is a day-based role that is put in place to implement and sustain training tools and systems in a LEAN/Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Autonomous Maintenance based production manufacturing environment. There are several key areas of focus for this role:

Factory Capability Framework:

The Training Lead will have responsibility for implementing the factory capability framework which includes role profile methodology, skill matrices, factory skills gap closure analysis based on top loss analysis, training plans and training course development.

Knowledge Capture:

Ensure appropriate knowledge management methodologies are applied to maintain, share and update recorded knowledge within the site’s information structure. Facilitate the Training design and development methodology with support from the Subject Matter Experts (i.e., Operations, Safety, QF&S, etc.). Training & Coaching on all E&T processes, systems, and tools including One Point Lessons (OPL’s), Job Aids, Standard Work, Work Instructions, and other training material.

Knowledge Transfer:

The Training Lead has ownership for the training programs at the site. Facilitate the Administration of Training processes which includes updating and monitoring site training calendar and updating training courses. Provide leadership, objectives, feedback, and performance coaching to all associates involved in site education and training programs, especially on the job trainers and expert trainers. Accountable for integrity and deployment consistency & accuracy of site course and appropriate validation tools to confirm Associate capability. Create and support framework to ensure successful onboarding for new associates according standard.

Best practices and vendor management:

The Training Lead actively uses the extensive Mars Pet Nutrition North America network to identify opportunities to improve the site’s systems, borrowing and implementing best practices. They also serve as the point of contact for 3rd party training vendors.

The Training Lead does not have direct reports, but a successful candidate must be able to influence without authority and drive a continuous improvement mindset around the training systems by assisting with Associate development and team engagement to support world-class operating results at the site. Training systems require a high level or organization to ensure that material is readily available for associates and updated on appropriate intervals.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and oversee processes in Factory Capability Framework, Knowledge Capture and Knowledge Transfer work systems
  • Maintain templates for skill matrices, closure analysis, training plans
  • Manage plant wide skill matrices and step-up-cards/trainings per role profile
  • Facilitate the Training design and development methodology with support from the Subject Matter Experts (i.e., Operations, Safety, QF&S, etc.)
  • Ownership for the training programs at the site
  • Facilitate the administration of training processes
  • Create and support framework to ensure successful onboarding for new associates according standard.
  • Coordinate with engineering/ops to update training manuals, standard work and SOPs based on equipment upgrades and/or other change management processes and integrate into the annual training plan.
  • Actively participate as the back-up lead for the Education and Training TPM Pillar
  • Become certified for their areas of ownership and train operators on TPM systems and tools
  • Provide training & coaching on all Education and Training Pillar systems as needed to E&T Pillar Members and others in the site TPM structure
  • Provide leadership, objectives, feedback, and performance coaching to all associates involved in site education and training programs, especially on the job trainers and expert trainers
  • Hold others accountable to TPM standards and results as an individual contributor (influence without authority) Work closely with all shift-based teams to align expectations and needs (i.e., coordinate operator/technician training opportunities and status)
  • Manage vendor relationships relevant to position
  • Identify and drive adoption of best practices from across Mars Organization through active participation in relevant internal community of practice groups for training and for training systems platforms

Education & Professional Qualifications

Minimum:

• High School Diploma/GED and 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR Associates Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or technical field of study and 2+ years of experience in technical manufacturing environment OR Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Operations or technical field of study with demonstrated communication and facilitation skills

Preferred:

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Operations or technical field of study with at least 2 years’ experience in a TPM or Lean manufacturing environment, administration level skill set using training/software platforms including POKA, Weever, ZPI and Power BI with demonstrated communication and facilitation skills

Required Knowledge / Experience

  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and be able to co-ordinate several projects at one time
  • Displays strong leadership skills with co-workers
  • Ability to coach and work with individuals in small teams
  • Ability to develop professional relationships with associates at all levels
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Skill to learn and utilize digital technology to enhance training programs (i.e., Poka, Weever, etc.)

Preferred Knowledge / Experience

  • Basic project management skills (Project charter, schedule/Gannt, closeout)
  • Working knowledge of TPM/Lean systems and tools
  • Evidence of leading and managing by influence
