Commercial Operations Specialist (Packaging) - 12 month fixed term contract (maternity cover)

Role Overview

The commercial operations packaging team perform a critical link between packaging suppliers and packaging R&D and Supply chain (including External Manufacturing sites). The team work very closely with Strategic Sourcing (purchasing) managers (SSMs), Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) and the Mars Commercial Services (MCS) team.

The key objectives of this role is to keep our factories running smoothly, lead and support supplier enabled business growth and value projects, implement commercial (procurement) strategies and drive improved service and performance through our supplier base.

This role is a great starting point for a broader career within the wider Commercial organisation as well as other supply chain related functions.

Please note that this is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover a period of maternity leave.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Representing commercial packaging in growth (Innovation & promotional) projects for your brands; connecting with R&D packaging team and suppliers to deliver new packaging solutions on time and for the best price.

  • Leading supply security and value delivery projects including implementation of tenders and associated qualification of new suppliers and supplier sites, reporting results to the relevant forums.

  • Lead Supplier Performance Management and operational excellence at your suppliers, building effective relationships and driving continuous improvement in service and efficiency through through formal review meetings and and informal connections

  • Represent commercial operations packaging as key contact for your categories/sites: Leading regular (bi-weekly) operational calls with site inbound packaging planners

  • Leading cross-functional teams to resolve any ad hoc and longer term operational issues/risks relating to your sites and suppliers - raising risks, issues, & escalations to the relevant business forums to ensure awareness and secure resources/support.

  • Active participation or leadership of monthly Category Connections meetings (strategic category meeting with all commercial job families - SQA,SSM & COPs) including supporting pro-active risk mgt and providing operational inputs into the category sourcing strategy development process.

  • Leading/supporting Continuous Improvement projects relating to commercial packaging processes and ways of working with other stakeholder functions

What we're looking for

  • Bachelors degree or Equivalent

  • Relevant experience working within Commercial, Supply Chain or Project Management type of roles

  • Experience working with external parties is advantageous

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to deal with tension/conflict and manage and engage a variety of stakeholders

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to organise workload, prioritise what is most important and balance between short term issue management and achievement of longer term objectives

  • Project management skills are advantageous.

  • Problem solving skills, ability to analyse information and drive solutions forward

  • Strong drive for results and customer focus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • You are willing to travel , on occasions, up to 20% of your time to visit the suppliers and attend team meetings
