Associate Scientist –New Material Compliance

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Material Compliance team based in SLO within the Regional Quality & Food Safety function. The purpose of this role is to ensure Mars Wrigley Material Quality Management (MQM) compliance for all new raw materials used across MW sites in the Europe, CEAB & Turkey region. By coordinating and processing new materials via MQM tools – as well as supporting with business-critical supply security and value leadership projects where required - the job holder will play a key role in protecting the Mars Wrigley supply chain from Q&FS, Legal and Consumer lifestyle hazards associated with raw materials used across the region.

What are we looking for?

Essential

  • BS degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical field

  • Knowledgeable in Food Safety or Quality management tools & systems with preferred Quality and/or Raw Material technical experience (e.g. HACCP)

  • IT & data analysis skills; experience in metric reporting preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Capable and comfortable working autonomously with limited guidance and direct day-to-day support

  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple priorities

  • Comfortable working at a regional level with a broad network of associates across different geographies and functions

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated success in manufacturing/ quality experience

  • Experience in auditing and/or working with external suppliers

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Develop and utilize specialized technical knowledge across raw material categories and coordinate MQM activities related to new raw materials developed in the region, to ensure the process is robust and accurate. Specific responsibilities will include:

    • Creation and workflow of material risk assessments

    • Specification compliance management (including specification writing for Chocolate/Ice cream raw materials)

    • Identification (of the need) and execution of changes in raw materials specifications

    • Business process ownership in MQM-related areas

  • Close collaboration with key stakeholders such as material Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) and Product/Pack Developers

  • Support business-critical supply security and value leadership projects for new and existing raw materials where applicable

  • Support the Materials Compliance Manager with the cascade of new/updated systems and processes to the wider team. Has the responsibility of increasing efficiency in the above processes to provide greater business value

  • Responsible for the continuous improvement and development of team reporting tools to ensure maximum visibility and efficiency to track compliance in the area of material risk assessments, specifications and inbound inspection plans

  • Act as Quality Management Process (QMP) Lead for the Materials Compliance team, creating, updating and maintaining the team’s QMP and training documentation. May be required to consult and work with key stakeholders in Commercial and R&D to ensure cross-functional QMP documentation is compliant and kept up to date
