Position: Animal Trainer
Key Responsibilities:
Train pets of various species, ages, and breeds for research purposes.
Assist in regulated research procedures by cueing and handling pets.
Conduct non-regulated research procedures, including urine collection.
Provide essential life and core skill training to kittens and puppies.
Document training progress accurately in relevant databases.
Identify new behaviors to open up research opportunities and develop training protocols.
Act as an expert in animal training and behavior.
Support associates and contract staff in animal training, handling, and husbandry.
Implement animal welfare and behavior programs.
Qualifications and Skills:
Essential: Good general education with minimum grade C or above in GCSE or equivalent in math, English, and a science subject.
Desirable: Higher or professional qualifications, such as A-levels or HND.
Preferable: Relevant degree, like a BSc in Animal Behaviour or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of learning theory and principles of animal training.
Excellent understanding of feline and canine communication and behavior.
Practical experience in training animals.
Flexibility, effective communication, planning, organization, and teamwork skills.
