This role will work functionally with the Trial Support Technicians to deliver all practical training for trials being performed at WALTHAM including practical demonstrations, shadowing and practical assessment for sign off on trial specific activities.

This role will work directly with the Research Support Team leader to produce a rota of activities for individuals to ensure all core day to day activities are suitably resources.

Finally, the Advanced Trial Support Technician should be fully competent to perform all activities of a Trial Support Technician and Laboratory Analyst. This role is required to work between both roles to help manage resource changes on specific days if required and requested by the Research Support Team Leader.

What are we looking for?

  • Must have BSc degree in related scientific discipline or experience working in a laboratory/trial setting

  • Desirable to have experience of working in R&D or related industry.

  • Experience of working with biological and/or chemical samples

  • Must have strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Data manipulation/handling of sample metadata in spreadsheets or LIMS is desirable

  • Experience of training others in laboratory techniques is desirable

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Deliver methodologies to process samples as specified within standard laboratory methods and/or trial protocols. Deliver methodologies to analyse blood and urine samples for Biochemistry/Haematology/urinalysis and petfood products as specified with standard laboratory methods and/or trial protocols.

  • Data capture for samples as specified in methodologies and trial protocols to ensure the quality of our science and in line with FAIR principles. Use of spreadsheets and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to deliver this responsibility.

  • Be the key trainer for new Trial Support Technicians in practical aspects of the role. Train through specified laboratory ways of working (show, shadow, assess and sign off) for all current and future sample processing methods and processes to support trial delivery.

  • Be responsible for creating a rota of work for the Trial Support Technician team with the Research Support Team leader ensuring tasks are specified and resourced.

    Be a key point of contact along with the Research Support Team leader to resolve urgent issues in the laboratory with methodologies or resources related to trial delivery.
