Now, with 60 strategically located ports and container terminals around the globe and several more in development, APM Terminals is lifting the standard of efficiency, responsibility, connectivity, productivity in our industry.
The Project:
APM Terminals is undertaking a significant acquisition and capital container terminal expansion & transformation project at the Laldia Container Terminal. The purpose of the project is to;
- Fully integrate Laldia into the APM Terminals portfolio.
- Modernize and upgrade the terminal by the introduction of new equipment, updating the infrastructure & IT / OT systems and the implementation of a new operating model
- Support growth in the existing container terminal business and expand the business value and proposition for Maersk
To support the successful delivery of the project, we are seeking to appoint a Technology Lead to join our project team. The successful candidate will draw upon project and industry experience to form part of a high-performing project team working across several construction, automation, equipment, and integration workstreams. Excellent teamworking skills are a prerequisite, and we are looking for candidates with a particular focus on collaboration, across a technically and culturally diverse business and group of stakeholders.
Role overview:
The Technology Project Lead is accountable for end-to-end technology leadership for the XX transformation. The Technology Lead develops project plans, defines and owns the related budget, drives the design and implementation of all IT products, ensures all solutions are secure and resilient, builds a strong local IT capability to support the project execution and, in close collaboration with the OT package lead and product platforms, takes accountability for the end-to-end integration of IT, Digital and OT capabilities to deliver a fully integrated IT environment for the terminal ready for operational go-live and steady-state operations. In parallel the Technology Project lead ensures that these project activities take place without impact to the current terminal operation.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on IT leader with strong strategic vision, proven experience managing mission-critical environments, and a passion for continuous improvement. You will combine deep technical expertise with business acumen, lead high-performing teams, and act as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. Should be able to transition to Head of IT role after the project phase is over and run the terminal IT operations and ensure high availability and performance of all IT systems supporting terminal operations
Key Responsibilities:
- Build the project IT organization to secure project deliverables and technology services meet the project and terminal needs.
- Create an integrated project plan with milestones for tracking along with the other project work streams.
- Drive and lead the end-to-end planning, development, procurement, execution, deployment and delivery of all the physical IT assets and systems (hardware, software and integrated systems) in the project – in line with the project’s scope, timeline, budget and objectives.
- Establish a close collaboration and partnership with the project OT package lead, ensuring a fully integrated plan, design and implementation of IT solutions and industrial infrastructure to enable the implementation of all in scope OT products.
- In close collaboration with global Technology platforms, the OT&A product organization and relevant vendors develop the final project Technology set-up including infrastructure, equipment, systems, electrical instrumentation and controls), based on:
- APMT’s global standards,
- Local business requirements,
- Local law and regulations, and
- The approved project business case baseline.
- Setup and lead appropriate project governance structures and reporting to ensure all stakeholders are kept informed on project progress, additional support can be provided in time, and risks can be addressed effectively.
- Manage and collaborate with all contractors, consultants, suppliers and other vendors required to develop and deploy the agreed IT systems and solutions.
- Liaise with all relevant stakeholders and functional departments and challenge requirements for the IT/OT set-up ensuring the use of the most up to date, cost effective and fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Closely liaise with the standing XX IT organization to ensure continuity of the current IT service provision is secured during project execution and any change to existing IT services is implemented in a controlled and aligned manner.
- Liaise and engage closely with the XX project team, the local terminal team and stakeholders, the regional and global Technology platforms, the OT&A project teams and other relevant peers and functions:
- to understand critical dependencies and interfaces affecting the project,
- to ensure all product and technology expertise is mobilized to feed into the integrated technology design
- to ensure functional requirements are met for successful integration testing and go-live, and
- to ensure successful handover of IT assets and systems to the terminal organisation at the end of the project.
- Within the defined scope, manage all changes to the IT scope, schedule, budget and risks.
- Build, coach, develop, provide direction and leadership to the IT delivery team. Promote APM Terminals and Maersk culture, build and maintain high engagement, be a role model of Maersk/APM terminals culture and leadership.
- Together with the Project Management Team, actively drive and promote safety and Lean culture, ensure all safety and lean procedures are implemented and followed on.
- After the project go-live should be able to manage the 24/7 IT operations including infrastructure, networks, and end-user services and ensure high availability and performance of all IT systems supporting terminal operations
Further responsibilities:
- General:
- Act as primary point of contact for Technology and be responsible for the company regarding planning, design, implementation and systems integration.
- Together with the Regional CIO and HR, build a future ready Technology project execution team by recruiting high-skilled professionals.
- Lead and co-ordinate multidisciplinary teams and activities of others in the delivery of the IT scope.
- Take responsibility for the integrated functioning of the IT hardware and systems, ready for integration testing and go-live.
- Coordinate with all Support teams & Implement Business Critical Applications as per APM Standards.
- Manage quality assurance, quality control, testing and commissioning.
- Maintain full awareness of project requirements, risks, changes, budget and schedule, report progress and liaise as necessary.
- Ensure that commissioning, safety, security and compliance are addressed early in the project and managed in accordance with the shareholders’ policies and standards.
- Oversee the interfaces, constructability, value engineering and peer review processes for the IT works.
- Have strategies, mitigations and response plans for risks, re-assess project value if needed.
- Cyber security:
- Integrate safety and corporate cyber security strategy into the design of the IT assets and systems. Oversee cyber security compliance of the OT assets.
- Actively promote cyber security and assume a visible leadership role on the (construction) site.
- Drive that all staff, partners and contractors maintain full awareness of cyber security as a priority.
- Ensure compliance by all IT vendors to APMTs cyber security standards and policies in cooperation with the Cyber Security and HSSE function.
- Project controls & governance
- Together with the Project Controls team, implement APMTs project controls and project procedures to manage the IT project in a forward-looking manner.
- Where needed, ensure, together with the authority compliance / permit team, that all necessary permits and approvals are in place for the timely delivery of the IT solutions.
- Track progress of the delivery of the IT assets and systems against the approved baseline and, where appropriate, ensure issues are pro-actively addressed, resolved and/or escalated and reported
- Assess delays and report on corrective measures taken to mitigate delays.
- Ensure that the impact of change is fully assessed and introduced in a controlled manner.
- In line with APMTs standards, implement best in class IT practices across the project and ensure they are consistently deployed by project staff and Technology vendors and partners.
- Maintain a forward-looking risk-register and subsequent mitigation strategies.
- Together with the Contracts Manager, ensure proper contract management is in place.
- Communications
- Ensure clear communication within and from the IT project team.
- Critical interfaces:
- Work closely with the business integration team ensuring that:
- dependencies from elements outside own responsibility (e.g. operations, civil, commercial, legal, funding etc.) affecting construction and equipment delivery are well understood, and
- the business integration team understand impacts of changes towards construction, equipment and project IT systems delivery.
- Liaise closely with all disciplines within the shareholders’ organisations to ensure that emerging workload is identified in advance and that resource requirements are planned.
Reporting And Scope:
The Technology Project Lead operates within a matrix organisation. The position is part of the APMT Technology organisation, however the role is fully dedicated to and operationally managed by the XX project team.
- Position reports to the ASME Regional Head of Tech (Direct) and the Laldia Project Director

Key experience, skills and qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in an IT/OT project related environment, preferably in the transport and logistics sector.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an IT/OT management role.
- Relevant project management experience in a real time environment (logistics, shipping, etc) and exposure to project controls.
- Good understanding of IT technology and systems, network connectivity, port equipment and products, operational technology, automated systems and controls, cyber security and industrial infrastructure architectures.
- Experienced in leading large cross functional technology change programs.
- Experience with technology innovations like cloud, IoT, AI and API.
- Leading technology implementations for container terminal brown- and/or greenfield projects (preferred)
Skills:
- Advanced Spoken & Written Communication skills
- English (essential); Bengali (preferred)
- High discipline – following through on actions and ensuring necessary documentation is in place
- Sensitive to cultural diversity, able to operate within a matrix environment and experience in a multicultural environment, regarding colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to influence and lead change
Qualifications:
- BSc in Information Systems Management or similar, or
- MSc or MBA in Science, IT Management or similar.
