Job Description

Maersk is undergoing an era of unprecedented transformation. We are rethinking the way we engage with customers and partners and have a bold ambition to decarbonize logistics.

The Maersk decarbonization team is at the forefront of this mission, working to reduce emissions to zero as quickly as is practically and commercially possible. Digital technologies—and StarConnect specifically—are key enablers in this journey. We are looking for an expert in vessel technical efficiency to drive digital solutions that empower vessels to produce energy at the lowest environmental footprint and cost. Come join us in bringing the decarbonization agenda to life!

We Offer

This position provides a unique opportunity to join a multicultural and cross-functional team passionate about using technology to solve business and operational challenges.

You will operate in a fast-paced environment, working with modern technologies and agile software development methods. You will collaborate closely with software engineers, users both onboard and ashore, and key internal stakeholders—and play a pivotal role in driving outcomes within energy and CO₂ emissions optimization.

At Maersk, we are proud of the diversity of our workforce and are committed to hiring the most qualified candidates. We value diversity in all its forms, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or religion.

Key Responsibilities

Working within a cross-functional scrum team alongside a dedicated product owner and software engineers, you will independently manage your time and resources to deliver impactful solutions. Your primary focus will be to understand business requirements, success metrics, and user pain points, and translate these into actionable user stories that enable teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

You will ensure that our products create tangible value by driving technical energy efficiency on vessels, enabling effective fleet performance management, and delivering measurable benefits to users both onboard and in the office. This includes researching business problems and objectives, understanding user experiences and needs, and collaborating with product teams to define solutions to real operational challenges.

As a technical expert, you will support the team throughout the entire development lifecycle—from requirements definition through testing and acceptance. You will develop communication and training materials, provide Level 3 support on domain-related matters, and mentor Level 2 support teams. In this capacity, you will serve as a trusted go‑to specialist for colleagues and stakeholders across the organization, bridging technical expertise with business outcomes.

Who are we looking for?

You hold a degree in mechanical engineering, marine engineering, naval architecture, or a similar discipline. You bring strong experience in vessel performance management and knowledge of engine room operations on container vessels and optimal energy production.

You may be working as a naval architect, mechanical engineer, or specialist who has contributed to fleet digitalization, advanced data analytics, and performance optimisation initiatives within the maritime industry. Experience working at the intersection of engineering and digital solutions—particularly in areas such as sensor data, vessel performance models, or fuel and energy efficiency—is highly valuable.

Your technical foundation includes proven expertise in vessel performance optimization—such as hydrodynamics, ship propulsion systems, and energy efficiency systems—as well as practical insights into onboard measurements and operations. You are comfortable working with data and have exposure to software development and artificial intelligence, with a genuine interest in using digital technologies to drive operational excellence in the maritime sector.

You are a collaborative problem‑solver who approaches challenges strategically and analytically. You excel at translating complex engineering problems into clear insights, prioritizing effectively, and fostering continuous improvement. You communicate openly, share knowledge generously, and thrive in fast-paced and dynamic environments.
