The Product Control team is the custodian of traded P&L, providing transparency over trading economics, market exposures and performance drivers. We are looking for a Product Controller to join our Copenhagen team and take ownership of a range of activities spanning daily P&L, valuations, exposure reporting and business partnering with the trading desks.

This role is ideal for someone with a a couple of years’ foundation in Product Control, Market Risk or a similar trading support function who is ready to deepen their expertise in commodity trading.

You will join a highly experienced team, gain direct exposure to physical and derivative trading, and have the opportunity to broaden across products, regions and a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

**While experience within energy markets is advantageous, we are equally interested in candidates from other commodity sectors or trading environments who bring strong technical fundamentals, curiosity and a desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and validate daily trading P&L across physical and derivative positions in fuel oil, gasoil, crude and alternative fuels.
  • Perform detailed P&L attribution, analysing and explaining key performance drivers and market movements.
  • Prepare and review daily position and exposure reports, ensuring accuracy and alignment with trading activity.
  • Communicate P&L and exposure insights clearly to traders, Risk and management.

Valuation and Market Assurance

  • Apply and validate forward curves, spreads and differentials used in the valuation of trading positions.
  • Support accurate mark-to-market valuation of physical and derivative portfolios.
  • Perform independent price verification (IPV) and support month-end valuation activities.
  • Contribute to valuation approaches across both established and emerging fuel products.

Control, Reporting and Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain the integrity of reported P&L, exposures and valuations through robust controls and reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve data and reporting issues in collaboration with Product Control, Risk and IT teams.
  • Support month-end close and reporting processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve, automate and streamline reporting, analytical models and operational processes.

Business Partnering

  • Build strong working relationships across Front Office, Operations, Market Risk and Finance.
  • Partner with traders to understand trading strategies, exposures and commercial performance.
  • Provide analysis and insights that support decision-making across trading activities and strategic projects.

What We're Looking For:

Experience & Technical Skills

  • 2-5 years of experience in Product Control, Market Risk, Middle Office or a similar role within a commodity or financial trading environment.
  • A good understanding of commodity trading economics, ideally gained within energy, metals, agriculture or other traded products.
  • Understanding of trading P&L, mark-to-market valuation, exposure management and hedging concepts.
  • Familiarity with physical and derivative trading environments.
  • Advanced Excel and strong analytical and data-handling capabilities.
  • Exposure to Power BI, SQL, Python or ETRM/CTRM systems would be advantageous.
  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or another relevant discipline is beneficial but not essential.

Personal Attributes

  • Curious, analytical and motivated by solving complex problems.
  • Comfortable working with experienced commercial stakeholders and able to challenge constructively when required.
  • Strong communicator who can translate technical analysis into meaningful business insights.
  • Takes ownership and works independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Passionate about learning and continuously improving ways of working.
