The Role
The HV Technician is a hands-on technical expert responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing high-voltage equipment across our terminals and associated facilities. This role is critical to ensuring uninterrupted power supply and operational efficiency in a fast-paced, safety-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on HV equipment to maximize reliability
- Respond promptly to breakdowns or faults, restoring power safely and efficiently
- Collaborate with engineers, grid operators, and technical teams during upgrades, shutdowns, and troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair faults in HV systems, replacing defective components as needed
- Conduct electrical testing and commissioning, ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards
- Install HV equipment including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protection systems
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, test results, and incidents
- Implement strict safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
What We’re Looking For

Essential Experience
- 3–5 years working with high-voltage systems and related equipment
- Strong understanding of HV electrical principles, circuit theory, transformers, relays, and switchgear
- Skilled in using HV testing tools (insulation resistance testers, HV testers, multimeters, clamp meters)
- Deep knowledge of electrical safety standards and PPE requirements
Education & Certifications
- Diploma or degree (BAC +2) in Electrical/Electromechanical Engineering or related field
- Certification in HV systems (e.g., HV Switching Operations, OSHA, or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with utility-scale power distribution systems
- Familiarity with SCADA systems or substation automation
- Knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards
Skills & Attributes
- Physically fit for work in confined spaces, heights, and demanding environments
- High attention to detail and safety awareness
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in diverse teams
Working Conditions
- Location: Ports, substations, industrial facilities, or infrastructure projects
- Hours: Full-time with potential shift work, weekends, and emergency call-outs
- Environment: High-risk electrical settings and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
