The opportunity

This is a visible, senior leadership role with accountability for shaping and delivering the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) agenda across Maersk’s Landside Logistics & Services (L&S) operations in Australia and New Zealand.

You will play a pivotal role in protecting our people, customers, and assets, while setting the direction for how HSE is embedded into day‑to‑day operations, growth initiatives, and long‑term strategy. Beyond governance and compliance, this role is about influencing leaders, enabling the frontline, and continuously raising the bar on safety performance across a complex and fast‑moving operational environment.

If you are motivated by impact, transformation, and collaboration, and want to help shape the future of safe, resilient logistics across Oceania, this role offers both scale and visibility.

What we offer

  • A senior leadership position with genuine influence across the Oceania region
  • The opportunity to shape strategy, not just execute it
  • A highly collaborative, international environment with access to global expertise
  • A role where your impact is visible—to frontline teams, customers, and senior leaders alike
  • Competitive reward, recognition, and long‑term career opportunities within Maersk

Location: Melbourne or Sydney, Australia

What you’ll be responsible for

As Head of HSE – Oceania, you will:

  • Lead and inspire a team of HSE specialists across Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment
  • Establish, maintain, and continuously improve the Area HSE framework to systematically identify, assess, and control risk across landside operations
  • Partner closely with Area and country leadership to ensure HSE priorities are fully aligned with business objectives
  • Drive consistent implementation of Global APMM HSE Standards, while effectively managing country‑specific legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with regional HSE peers, HQ, and global Centres of Excellence to deploy tools, guidance, and assurance activities that reduce frontline risk
  • Build strong HSE capability by ensuring teams are well‑qualified, well‑trained, and continuously developing their expertise
  • Foster a culture of care, inclusion, and accountability, where people feel empowered to speak up and improve safety every day
  • Actively connect with industry peers and external networks to bring innovation, insights, and leading practices into Maersk
  • Ensure robust HSE risk and impact assessments are embedded into Growth & Integration activities, including new sites and acquisitions

What we’re looking for

You bring senior‑level credibility, practical experience, and the ability to influence across complex organisations. Specifically, you will have:

  • 10+ years’ experience in senior HSE leadership roles, ideally across large, geographically diverse operations
  • Strong background in logistics, transport, supply chain, or industrial operations
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams of HSE professionals
  • A collaborative, engaging leadership style, with the ability to build followership across cultures, functions, and seniority levels
  • The ability to translate complex risk and safety topics into clear, compelling messages for different audiences
  • Strong strategic thinking, coupled with the discipline to drive execution and accountability
  • Confidence operating autonomously while partnering effectively with senior leaders
  • A university degree in Health & Safety, Risk, Security, Crisis Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
