Purpose:
Operational excellence is one of the four core strategic pillars of APM Terminals’ long-term strategy: “This is our platform for current and new terminals, where all value streams are standard, scalable, and replicable from acquisition, to construction, integration and all the way down to running a terminal”. Implementing, optimizing and scaling Operations Technology will play a pivotal role in achieving our strategic goals, ranging from initiatives like implementing complex brownfield automation at fast pace to
optimize manhours per move or efforts to optimize running-hours per move by deploying asset digitization in our more conventional terminals. To be successful, our terminals need to be supported by a focused, aligned and agile global team that adds value by Subject Matter Expertise, standardization and agile decision making.


As part of the Asset Digitization (AD) Solutions team within the Process Automation (Operational Technology) function, the SCADA Solutions Lead is responsible for leading, managing, and supporting the AD SCADA Solutions team, as well as overseeing all developments within its scope. This role owns and maintains the backend logic developed using SCADA scripting and coding tools, manages embedded databases within the SCADA environment, and ensures the standardization of AD visual and frontend solutions across terminals. The SCADA Solutions Lead also ensures that sourced signal mappings meet the expected quality standards in alignment with the latest agreed UDT specifications. Additional responsibilities include reporting project status, ensuring the timely delivery of roadmap milestones, and providing Level 3 support.

Focus areas/main deliverables:

  • Coordinate and supervise the development of standardized SCADA products.
  • Balance team workload to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery across roadmap projects.
  • Own and maintain comprehensive development documentation and technical requirements in alignment with AD teams. Ensure standardization of AD solutions across terminals.
  • Co-design AD products in collaboration with AD Subject Matter Experts and aligned with AD strategy principles: SCADA empowerment, strong digital foundations, modularity, scalability, agility, and cost-effectiveness. Organize and oversee Level 3 (L3) product support when required.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Collaborate with the Product Line Manager to define and execute the Asset Digitization (AD) strategy, ensuring alignment with APM Terminals’ overall direction.
  • Promote Operations Technology and Automation as strategic enablers of safety and operational excellence.
  • Translate provided products specifications on tangible SCADA solutions and functionalities.
  • Provide visibility and contribute to defining and maintaining product strategies, roadmaps, and lifecycles for all in-scope AD SCADA products.
  • Evaluate and bring into discussion legacy products, including support, maintenance, or retirement plans.
  • Lead execution of SCADA product roadmaps in coordination with AD teams, OT technology partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely delivery, testing, and implementation of new products and features under team scope.
  • Lead performance optimization efforts, conduct gap analyses, and implement improvements.
  • Helps to define quality assurance standards, test cases, and compliance checks to ensure product reliability.
  • Collaborate and contribute identifying value propositions, defining scope and documentation requirements for new products and deployments.
  • Supervise project plans, ensuring delivery milestones are met.
  • Conduct risk assessments, manage change requests, and maintain comprehensive control documentation.
  • Maintain internal dashboards to track product performance, development progress, and implementation status.
  • Actively manage the product backlog, prioritize features, and align with stakeholders.
  • Ensure all relevant documentation, policies, and processes are maintained and accessible.
  • Foster product management capabilities within the team by applying OT standards and best practices.
  • Ensure effective collaboration with internal partners, cross-functional teams, stakeholders, OEMs, etc. to maximize product impact.
  • Manage and provide Level 3 Support for SCADA products.


Critical Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in product/program/project management in technology and/or operations, preferably in working with automation and/or in the transport and logistics sector.
  • Experience in a real time operating/industrial environment (logistics, shipping, etc).
  • Strong understanding of port equipment, automated systems and controls, and/or related industrial infrastructures architecture.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming and HMI/SCADA developments.
  • Expert in industrial communication protocols and industrial devices integration.
  • Onsite commissioning (FAT, SAT & UAT) experience.
  • Strategical and critical thinking, requirements and stakeholders’ management, business analysis, product optimization.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
  • Resources management optimization, delegation, guidance and supervision.
  • Leadership experience with a proven track record to deliver results with a team.

Skills:

  • Team player, capable of motivating peers and reports to achieve success.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Good knowledge in standard professional programs (i.e. MS Office, ERP/CMMS systems).
  • Expert in PLCs (Hardware and Software) and in HMI/SCADA developments
  • Ignition Certification
  • Project and product management (timelines, roadmaps, risk assessment, change logs, resource management, assessment and estimation, …)
  • Persuasive, being able to influence colleagues and vendors to reach the functional or project goals.
  • Driven, self-motivating, result oriented.
  • High discipline – following through on actions and ensuring necessary documentation.
  • Ability to motivate and develop team members and colleagues to create a performance driven organization.
  • High attention to detail and documentation.
  • Sensitive to cultural diversity and experience in a multicultural environment, regarding colleagues, employees of vendors and other stakeholders.

Education

  • Engineering/finance/business degree or similar
  • Ignition SCADA Platform Certification Requirements
  • Office Based, in Algeciras, Spain
