Job Description
What skills will you need?
- Scala is a must have as 95% of our code in Data Engineering is scala
- Java, Python and Go good to have
- Streaming / messaging frameworks such as Kafka or SQS
- Streaming frameworks such as Spark or Flink
- Deep understanding and knowledge of data modelling (RDBMS, serialisation protocols and NoSQL)
- Distributed architectures and micro-services
- DevOps and CI/CD tooling, such as Jenkins, Maven, Git, ArgoCd
- Strong automation mindset and a passion for root cause analysis
- Expertise in performance tuning and service monitoring
A great candidate would have experience with:
- AWS infrastructure & tooling
- Docker/Kubernetes as a user
- Modern data warehousing (Hive, Kylin or Presto)
- Elastic-search and Prometheus

What will you be responsible for?
- You will be an essential part of an award-winning venture-backed and rapidly growing InsurTech.
- All aspects of development, testing, deployment and support of a real-time streaming application at Senior Engineer level and driving design decisions alongside senior members of the team and coaching other more junior ones
- Building and deploying data processing pipelines for IoT data
- Creation of reusable data models
- Designing and building scalable services that integrate with a large range of data providers
- Leveraging data analytics frameworks that serve Petabyte-scale data insights to customers
- Release testing and productionising new components
We want you because you
- Have Scala development experience of at least 2 years
- Work with Open Source data processing frameworks like Spark and/or Flink
- Have experience with Event Driven Architectures built around Kafka
- Have worked before with Kubernetes as a developer including containerisation of apps, and service and deployment definition
- Have experience using Elasticsearch, InfluxDB, Aerospike and other enterprise grade NoSQL databases from a data design and integration perspectives
- Strongly believe in automation and good testing practices
- Have expertise in performance tuning and service monitoring
- Have led a team before or are willing to undertake team leadership responsibilities
A great candidate would have experience with:
- Modern data warehousing (Hive, Kylin or Presto)
- Prometheus and Grafana
Soft Skills:
- Good communicator

- Good explainer: can make the complex simple
