THE ROLE
The Legal Team at Farfetch is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel (Regulatory) for a broad regulatory role with a focus on digital regulation and ESG disclosure regulations and reporting. This is a unique opportunity as we build our internal digital regulation and ESG related capabilities to futureproof our business. You will enjoy a broad and diverse role, delivering high-quality strategic legal advice across multiple operational territories in conjunction with our wider international Legal Team, especially in the US. Acting as a true business partner, this role requires someone who is commercially minded, intellectually curious, and hands-on, able to quickly understand and apply new sets of international laws and regulations - identifying and mitigating risks, as well as seizing opportunities. It is a role for someone with strong professional ethics and the energy, interest, and experience to pursue a broad array of regulatory matters.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Work closely with the Ethics & Compliance Teams, alongside other teams within Legal and the Farfetch group business, as well as with external counsel
  • Horizon scan, track global trends, spot issues and opportunities, as well as drive the implementation of new legal and regulatory requirements using a coherent risk-based approach, and oversee good practice across the Farfetch group
  • Drive the ESG governance process and ESG reporting compliance globally, including in the US. This aspect will form around 30% of this role and includes tracking and advising on global ESG disclosure regulations, reviewing, advising on, and drafting ESG-related public disclosures, including for our annual ESG Report
  • Support our Sustainability Team in the tracking and implementation of certain new sustainability-related regulations
  • Consider and advise on developments in tech/digital regulation, including frameworks for artificial intelligence, use of algorithms, and the regulation of online platforms and providers of digital services more broadly, and build systems and controls in respect of them
  • Identify, monitor, and evaluate legal, regulatory, and enforcement trends and risks that may impact the Farfetch business, so these can be presented to senior stakeholders in the business, including the Board and its Committees
  • Develop strategies for, and engage with, relevant regulators
  • Build compliance processes, tools, and policies to educate relevant parts of the Farfetch Group

WHO YOU ARE

  • Be a qualified lawyer with at least 3 years’ PQE, superior analytical skills, and creative problem-solving skills. Prior in-house experience would be beneficial
  • Have excellent training, and have previously advised on digital regulation and ESG regulatory initiatives. Advising on companies’ public disclosures is a plus
  • Have experience engaging with regulators and developing legal strategies
  • Have proven ability to assess new pieces of international legislation/regulation and apply them on a risk-based basis to a business
  • Have the curiosity and ability to absorb a lot of information quickly, apply it in assessments, and drive implementation
  • Be able to understand nuances and complexities, and translate these into commercial, pragmatic, and concise advice in the context of a global business
  • Have a strong work ethic and attention to detail, be highly proactive, organized, and efficient, and able to work on fast-moving projects
  • Be able to work autonomously but also well in teams
  • Possess excellent communication, organization, and drafting skills
  • Be driven, forward-thinking, robust, innovative, and agile, with commercial acumen

  • We can’t wait to receive your application. But before you send it to us, here are some helpful tips to make sure your application is as strong as it can be. Have you set out why this role is a good match for your career aspirations and that you have the skills and experience required? We want you to be as clear about your future ambitions as we are and whilst we encourage people to learn, develop and grow, you will need to hit the ground running. Have you checked spelling and grammar? We have high standards and you don’t want to miss out because of something as easily correctable as a typo.
We are committed to equality of opportunity for all employees. Applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.
