The UK Corporate Finance M&A practice is an innovative, award-winning team, regularly closing high profile cross-border sell-side, buy-side and finance raising transactions, supporting a range of clients from high growth businesses to multinational listed companies.

Our dynamic and diverse UK Corporate Finance M&A team consists of ~100 individuals of varying professional backgrounds, including bankers, accountants, industry professionals and consultants. Working with us will entail both formal and on the job learning from sector experts, which will help you to develop the skills needed to become an effective advisor.

This is a rare opportunity for a candidate to join a market-leading M&A team.

Key highlights of the EY Scotland M&A team include:

  • Seven dedicated lead advisory people based across Edinburgh and Glasgow, working with Scottish based businesses across all sectors
  • Working alongside colleagues with sector expertise from the wider UK M&A group to provide a differentiated market proposition combining local delivery and sector expertise
  • Working with colleagues across service lines, including diligence and tax, to provide a fully integrated service offering for our clients
  • The team has successfully completed multiple transactions over the past 12 months including several PE deals and cross-border trade transactions
  • Commitment to the Diversity and Inclusiveness agenda, fostering a culture of belonging and pursuing a range of initiatives which attract and retain a wide pool of talent to our business
  • Scotland M&A has advised on a number of high-profile deals over the last year, with a selection including:
    • Acted as the lead financial advisor to the shareholders of Graham & Sibbald on the majority investment made by Foresight Private Equity
    • Acted as the lead financial advisor to the shareholders of Train’d Up on sale of the business to Chiltern Capital
    • Acted as the lead financial advisor to ICR Integrity on the carve out sale of its Moss Mechanical On Site Services business to Denholm Energy
    • Acted as the lead financial advisor to the shareholders of Pitreavie Packaging on the sale to MacFarlane Group plc.

Your key responsibilities

  • Support in the preparation of transaction marketing materials and other client deliverables
  • Valuation analysis and calculation using market practice methodologies, including undertaking sensitivity/scenario analysis, analysis of financial data
  • Interact with senior team members and client management teams daily to execute transactions
  • Deal management and management of key stakeholders on projects, including other advisers
  • Commercial and financial advice on key contracts forming part of the transaction, and negotiation with project stakeholders
  • Support in the development and maintenance of client relationships, including pitch / proposal preparation, presentation to clients, origination and marketing initiatives and account pursuits

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • 3 years minimum of professional experience
  • High degree of personal drive and motivation to enhance your own knowledge and succeed
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; highly competent in Microsoft Office
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills (financial modelling capability is also favoured)
  • Ability to react well to pressure whilst multitasking on numerous engagements
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with individuals, organisations and clients, whilst working under pressure, across multiple projects and to tight deadlines

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Advanced professional financial qualification (e.g. ACA, CFA, MBA)
  • Mid-market or regional transaction experience
