Executive - Decision Modelling – London
The opportunity
At EY-Parthenon, our unique combination of transformative strategy, transactions, tax and corporate finance delivers real-world value – solutions that work in practice, not just on paper. Benefiting from EY’s full spectrum of services, we’ve reimagined strategic consulting to work in a world of increasing complexity. With deep functional and sector expertise, paired with innovative AI-powered technology and an investor mindset, we partner with CEOs, boards, private equity and governments every step of the way.
Competitive business depends on intelligent, informed decisions. As part of our experienced Decision Modelling team, you will help shape complex strategic, commercial and financial decisions for major corporates, private equity firms, other investment institutions, government departments and public sector bodies. You will use financial modelling, analysis and structured problem-solving to turn complexity into clear, practical insight that clients can act on.
The breadth of our work will give you exposure to transactions, bids, financing and project finance, as well as business planning, forecasting, complex contracts and tools used for ongoing decision-making. You will work directly with clients across varied assignments, building your specialist expertise and broader commercial judgement.
As a Decision Modelling Executive, you will contribute directly to work that helps clients make important decisions, building and testing models or tools as part of an experienced engagement team. You will take part in design discussions and learn how client objectives, business decisions, user needs and likely future requirements shape the choices we make. As your experience and judgement grow, you will take greater ownership of design, defined workstreams and client interactions.
Your key responsibilities
- Build and test integrated financial models under appropriate direction, applying agreed designs and technical approaches and clearly explaining your work and its outputs.
- Use modelling and analysis to explore how changes in assumptions, options or external factors affect potential outcomes, identifying relevant implications for discussion with the wider team and client.
- Deliver defined tasks and workstreams to agreed quality standards and timescales, keeping senior colleagues informed of progress and issues.
- Gather, organise and challenge data and assumptions, and maintain clear specifications, working papers and supporting documentation.
- Review your own work carefully, respond constructively to review findings and identify matters that need senior input.
- Contribute meaningfully to client meetings by explaining your work clearly, listening to client perspectives and responding appropriately to questions about your area of the work.
- Work collaboratively, seek timely feedback and turn it into clear development priorities, while sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.
- Contribute to formal independent model review engagements where appropriate.
- Support proposals, pitches and wider team initiatives through defined tasks, with appropriate guidance.
Skills and attributes for success
What we look for
- Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Excel, supported by relevant experience building, testing or reviewing integrated financial models, decision-support tools or undertaking closely related analytical work.
- Curiosity about how organisations work, with the numerical and commercial understanding to identify key business drivers and connect the work and its outputs to the client’s decision.
- Logical thinking and the ability to structure unfamiliar problems and compare possible approaches.
- Close attention to detail, with a disciplined approach to self-review and the judgement to seek input when needed.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain your work and its outputs in a way others can understand.
- A collaborative approach, including listening to different perspectives, sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.
- Reliable organisation of your work, supported by clear documentation and timely communication of progress or issues.
- An active approach to development through seeking timely, balanced feedback and applying learning to future work.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- ACA, ACCA or another relevant finance qualification; a numerate or analytical degree; or relevant professional experience.
- Knowledge of or interest in complementary tools such as Power Query, Power BI, VBA or other data and visualisation platforms.
- Comfort working with large or less structured datasets, including source-system extracts.
- Experience using approved AI-enabled tools independently to improve productivity or delivery, with judgement to review and refine outputs for accuracy, relevance and potential bias, protect confidentiality and seek guidance where needed.
