Job Description

At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go.

Join EY and help to build a better working world.

The opportunity

This is a senior leadership opportunity within EY Tax, with responsibility for shaping the technology strategy and application landscape that underpin a market-leading business. You will influence investment and transformation priorities, advise senior stakeholders and lead the delivery of secure, resilient and scalable technology that supports growth, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

You will lead and develop a high-performing application management team, creating clear direction, building capability and fostering a collaborative, accountable culture. Working across Tax, Technology and external partners, you will bring together technical expertise and business insight to turn strategy into measurable outcomes.

The role offers significant scope to make a visible impact: modernising critical platforms, strengthening operational resilience and enabling technology-led change at scale. It will suit an established technology leader who is motivated by the opportunity to shape direction, grow a talented team and build trusted relationships across a complex, high-profile organisation.

Your key responsibilities

  • Define and execute the Tax technology strategy and application roadmap, ensuring applications, platforms and technology investments support business growth, regulatory compliance and the Tax transformation agenda.
  • Own the Tax application portfolio end-to-end across its lifecycle, providing strategic leadership, governance and operational oversight of business-critical systems.
  • Act as the principal technology advisor and subject matter expert for the Tax application estate, using deep technical and functional knowledge of Tax systems, data structures, integrations, business processes and operational dependencies.
  • Shape future technology direction and investment decisions by evaluating emerging technologies, vendor capabilities and application architectures that support growth, resilience and competitive advantage.
  • Drive technology-enabled transformation, application modernisation and process automation to improve efficiency, scalability and business value.
  • Maintain robust governance, security, resilience and compliance frameworks, including oversight of risk management, business continuity, disaster recovery, information security and regulatory obligations.
  • Manage strategic relationships with software suppliers and technology partners, challenging vendor roadmaps, influencing product development and driving accountability for service performance, innovation and roadmap delivery.
  • Oversee incidents, outages, service recovery, application upgrades, releases, integrations and technical change management, applying detailed technical understanding to support issue resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Own technology budgets, forecasting, business cases, procurement and investment governance, ensuring investments deliver measurable business value and return on investment.
  • Provide executive reporting and assurance on technology performance, operational health, risk, resilience and transformation delivery.

Skills and attributes for success

What we look for

  • A strategic technology leader with proven experience defining and delivering application strategy, transformation roadmaps and technology-enabled change in a complex business environment.
  • Deep technical and functional understanding of enterprise applications, system architecture, integrations, data flows, operational dependencies and business processes.
  • Strong governance, risk and control mindset, with experience overseeing security, resilience, compliance, business continuity, disaster recovery and regulatory obligations.
  • Credibility with senior stakeholders, with the ability to act as a trusted advisor, provide executive-level assurance and influence technology direction and investment decisions.
  • Commercially astute, with experience managing supplier relationships, vendor performance, contract negotiations, commercial governance and technology investment cases.
  • Operationally resilient and outcome-focused, with the ability to oversee critical services, major incidents, releases, upgrades and continuous improvement activity.
  • Strong financial management capability, including ownership of budgets, forecasting, procurement, business cases and return on investment.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience working with Tax, professional services or other regulated business functions where technology reliability, compliance and operational resilience are business critical.
  • Experience leading application modernisation, process automation, platform transformation or technology migration initiatives.
  • Experience evaluating emerging technologies, supplier capabilities or application architectures to shape future investment and transformation decisions.
  • A track record of influencing vendor roadmaps, improving service performance and ensuring externally provided solutions meet business requirements.
