Director MFD - AI Business Transformation

Position overview

This is a senior market-facing consulting role focused on helping financial services clients reimagine how work gets done with AI. The Director will shape the sales cycle into compelling, commercially robust transformation engagements.

The role requires an experienced Director who can work with business leaders as well as technology, data, risk and change teams. The successful candidate will identify where AI can create measurable value, frame the case for change, shape the technical solution and lead the pursuit team through to a successful win.

This is not a technology sales role. It is a business transformation leadership role that uses AI as a catalyst to redesign work, improve performance and build confidence in practical, responsible adoption.

Role objective

To develop AI opportunities into won client engagements by shaping business-led propositions, influencing senior stakeholders and creating solutions that show how AI can increase revenue, reduce cost, improve customer satisfaction and reduce risk across financial services organisations.

Your client impact

  • Lead the shaping of AI transformation opportunities across banking, insurance, wealth and asset management, capital markets, payments and other financial services domains.
  • Work with senior business stakeholders to identify how AI, generative AI, automation and data-led decisioning can transform business areas, operating models and customer journeys.
  • Translate AI ambition into specific value opportunities linked to growth, productivity, customer experience, risk reduction, control effectiveness and operational resilience.
  • Execute EY.ai ‘AI Reimagination’ campaigns into target clients bringing together strategy, business design, AI, data, technology, risk, regulatory, change and delivery capabilities.
  • Facilitate executive workshops that explore how work could be reimagined, including process redesign, role redesign, human-AI collaboration, service model change and operating model implications.
  • Develop value cases and transformation roadmaps that help clients prioritise AI investments based on impact, feasibility, risk, readiness and speed to value.
  • Act as the bridge between business leaders, data specialists, technologists, risk professionals and delivery teams so that proposed solutions are practical, credible and deliverable.
  • Lead pursuit teams through qualification, win strategy, solution development, pricing, governance and final client presentations.
  • Bring a strong understanding of financial services regulation, conduct risk, model risk, operational resilience, data privacy, customer duty and responsible AI considerations.
  • Coach Senior Managers, Managers and Consultants in consultative selling, proposition development, client storytelling and value-led solution shaping.

Key responsibilities

Opportunity shaping and sales leadership

  • Own the end-to-end shaping of selected AI transformation opportunities from early client need through to signed engagement.
  • Develop opportunity hypotheses based on client context, sector trends, competitive pressures, regulatory drivers and known business pain points.
  • Create differentiated win themes and client propositions that show how AI can deliver measurable business value.
  • Lead the development of proposals, statements of work, commercial models, delivery plans and executive presentations.
  • Work with account teams, client partners and service line leaders to qualify opportunities and focus pursuit effort on the most attractive work.
  • Challenge and refine client requirements where appropriate, helping clients move from technology-led requests to business-led transformation outcomes.

AI-enabled business transformation advisory

  • Help clients reimagine work across operations, customer service, claims, underwriting, lending, financial crime, compliance, risk, finance, technology and relationship management.
  • Identify opportunities for AI-enabled redesign across processes, decisions, controls, knowledge work, customer interactions and colleague experience.
  • Design solution architecture for agent-led for workflow agents (perform bounded task flows and orchestration of approvals); supervised orchestration agents (coordinate multi-step processes across tools and teams, recommending and executing actions; and operational agents (optimises and acts with pre-authorised operational boundaries)
  • Advise on organisational implications of AI adoption, including future roles, skills, governance, adoption, change management and operating model design.
  • Bring current market insight on generative AI, agentic workflows, intelligent automation, predictive analytics, document intelligence, decisioning and AI-assisted customer engagement.
  • Ensure AI transformation opportunities are grounded in responsible AI principles, regulatory expectations, model risk management and implementation reality.

Client leadership and stakeholder engagement

  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across business, operations, technology, data, risk, compliance and transformation functions.
  • Facilitate executive conversations that move clients from AI interest to AI investment.
  • Communicate complex AI concepts in business language, with a clear focus on value, risk, delivery feasibility and organisational change.
  • Use storytelling, structured problem solving and commercial insight to influence client decision-making.
  • Represent the firm as a credible senior advisor in the AI transformation market.

Internal leadership and collaboration

  • Mobilise multidisciplinary pursuit teams across AI, data, technology, cloud, cyber, risk, business design, process improvement, change and managed services.
  • Work closely with delivery leaders to ensure proposed solutions can be delivered effectively, responsibly and profitably.
  • Contribute to the growth of the AI transformation practice through proposition development, thought leadership, people development and go-to-market activity.
  • Support internal governance for pricing, risk review, quality assurance and commercial approval.

Essential experience

  • 15 years+ consulting experience, ideally gained in a Big 4, strategy consulting, technology consulting or transformation advisory environment.
  • Significant experience working with financial services clients and a strong understanding of the sector's commercial, operational, regulatory and technology landscape.
  • Demonstrated experience shaping and winning complex transformation opportunities, including formal RFP responses, proactive propositions and senior stakeholder-led sales cycles.
  • Strong understanding of how AI, generative AI, automation and data can be applied to business transformation.
  • Experience developing value cases, investment cases, transformation roadmaps, operating model recommendations and delivery approaches.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure pursuit or proposal environments.
  • Experience working with senior executives and influencing decisions across business, technology, data, risk and operations stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including pricing, scope definition, delivery risk, margin management and contracting considerations.

Essential skills

  • Strategic thinking and structured problem solving.
  • Consultative selling and senior client relationship development.
  • Executive-level communication, facilitation and presentation.
  • Deep financial services business knowledge.
  • Ability to translate AI capability into practical business value.
  • Proposition development, pursuit leadership and deal shaping.
  • Commercial judgement and understanding of engagement economics.
  • Stakeholder management across complex and regulated organisations.
  • Ability to lead teams without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Understanding of responsible AI, data governance, regulatory risk and control environments.

Preferred experience and qualifications

  • Experience with AI-enabled transformation in areas such as customer operations, lending, claims, underwriting, financial crime, compliance, risk management, finance operations, wealth advisory or contact centres.
  • Experience developing propositions around generative AI, agentic workflows, intelligent automation, AI operating models or AI adoption at scale.
  • Knowledge of cloud, data platforms, enterprise architecture, workflow technologies and AI delivery methods.
  • Experience working in or with large regulated financial institutions.
  • Prior responsibility for revenue targets, sales pipelines or major pursuit leadership.
  • Experience creating thought leadership, market propositions, demonstrations or reusable sales assets.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in business, finance, economics, engineering, computer science, data science or a related discipline.
  • Relevant certifications in AI, data, cloud, financial services, programme delivery, agile delivery, product management or transformation are advantageous.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate is a senior consultant who combines commercial leadership with strong financial services insight and a practical understanding of AI-enabled transformation. They can operate credibly with executive stakeholders, shape ambiguous opportunities into compelling propositions and mobilise the right teams to win and deliver work.

They will be comfortable challenging client thinking, reframing technology questions as business transformation opportunities and building confidence that AI can be adopted responsibly in a highly regulated environment.
