The opportunity

In Assurance at EY, we empower you to thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment. As a key player in our assurance practice, you'll engage with diverse clients, providing critical insights that drive their success. We offer a wealth of career opportunities, from hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies to tailored professional development programs. Our culture fosters collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to excellence, ensuring that every team member feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential. Discover your future with us and be part of a team that makes a difference!

Our FS Audit Quality Team (AQT) plays a vital role in supporting our Audit Quality Strategy, providing enablement to the audit practice and collaboration across the UKI Super Region. As an AQT experienced Senior Manager you will:

  • Lead Insurance AQST (Audit Quality Support Team) reviews working as an integral part of complex and challenging audits throughout the audit process, through coaching and reviewing to promote consistent high-quality audits.
  • Collaborate with PPD and the Insurance audit practice on standardisation activities, including the deployment of the Future of Audit. Now (FOAN) programme and effective involvement of actuarial specialists.

The precise scope of the role will be agreed based on business needs, the successful candidate’s experience and availability.

Your key responsibilities

Everything you’ll do will come back to providing exceptional audit quality for our clients and the public interest. Colleagues from a diverse array of backgrounds will look to you first for answers, so you’ll be a key contact when it comes to resolving complex issues. As you build your knowledge and experience, you’ll become a credible advisor, influencing engagement teams on resolutions that will impact entire industries. You will be responsible for one or more of the activities below:

  • Work closely with engagement teams to drive high audit quality outcomes, including:
    • Performing reviews to help engagement teams elevate their audit quality, including
      • Risk-based scoping through engagement with the audit team
      • Challenging the effectiveness and articulation of the audit strategy
      • Reviewing the audit work and identifying areas for improvement
      • Supporting and coaching engagement teams to implement identified improvements in audit quality
    • Reporting the status and results of reviews to the UK FS Audit Quality leader and FS Business Unit Leaders
    • Identifying issues and concerns that may require firm-wide action
    • Supporting the FS AQT and engagement teams during internal and external inspections
    • Ensuring that inspection findings are disseminated to teams in a timely manner through our coaching programmes
  • Assist with the deployment of other UK FS quality initiatives, such as supporting the implementation of FOAN.
  • Lead and support insurance audit standardisation, driving consistent approaches, templates, tools and ways of working, including implementation of FOAN and coordination with actuarial teams and specialists to embed actuarial involvement at the appropriate stages of the audit
  • Contribute to the development of training and guidance

Flexible scope and time commitment — There is flexibility over both the time commitment and how the role is split across its responsibilities. Depending on experience, availability and business priorities, the successful candidate may take on the full portfolio or focus on one or more defined areas—for example, insurance standardisation only, AQST leadership and review only, or an agreed combination of these responsibilities.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Exemplary technical skills in respect of auditing standards and their practical application, including experience in audit reporting matters
  • Attention to detail in the review of audit work and the identification of areas for improvement
  • Experience in performing audit quality reviews
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence and the ability to challenge the judgements made by engagement partners and teams
  • Proactive and quick to engage with audit teams to help deliver challenging messages in a positive and constructive way
  • Open and flexible mindset to work with others with different skillsets and experience to develop the best solutions to complex questions
  • Proactive communication and deadline management, both with the audit team and audit quality leadership

To qualify for the role you must have

  • ACA/ CA/ ACCA (ICAEW, ICAS, Irish Institute or equivalent international qualification)
  • Strong project management and technical auditing skills
  • Significant experience with large public interest and complex audits, through senior manager level
  • Strong focus on and passion for audit quality and coaching teams

Ideally, you’ll also have

Experience in an FS environment, particularly insurance, and/or within a Big 4 professional services firm.

What we look for

We’re interested in an audit senior manager who wants to contribute with a genuine creative vision and the confidence to make it happen. You can expect plenty of autonomy in this role, so you’ll also need the ability to take the initiative and seek out opportunities to improve our current relationships and processes. If you’re serious about auditing and ready to take on some of our clients’ most complex issues, this role is for you.

At EY, we’ll develop you with future-focused skills and equip you with world-class experiences. We’ll empower you in a flexible environment, and fuel you and your extraordinary talents in a diverse and inclusive culture of globally connected teams. Learn more.
