Job Description

This is a 14 month fixed term contract role starting July 2023.

We are looking for a Senior Sustainability Manager to support the delivery of Depop’s impact goals and contribute to advance our mission to become the most diverse and progressive home of fashion. This role is truly 360 - involving close collaboration with a number of teams across Depop (e.g. Marketing, Product, Legal, Workplace, People), Etsy, Inc., and external partners. You’ll be lending your expertise to colleagues as subject matter expert whilst rolling up your own sleeves to lead the delivery of impact-led projects.

You will report into the Director of Sustainability and DEI.

Job description:

  • Take the lead and, where relevant, act as subject matter expert and advisor to cross-functional teams, to design and deliver strategic and tactical initiatives supporting our public and internal impact goals, on topics ranging from circularity, net zero, sustainable operations, responsible procurement and social innovation.
  • Lead the annual external impact reporting process for Depop, coordinating cross functional data collection, data assurance, and narrative building in close collaboration with Etsy, Inc. Impact and Finance teams.
  • Coordinate the end of year strategic revision of our impact goals and targets as part of the company’s annual planning process, collaborating with the business and Etsy, Inc.
  • Maintain ongoing engagement with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for synergies between business operations and impact priorities, and surface roadblocks
  • Serve as a specialist to support our marketing and product teams to define when /how /where we talk about impact matters.

Qualifications

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Extensive experience in fields relating to sustainability, impact and circular economy
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, allowing you to translate technical sustainability concepts to non-technical audiences, influence and generate engagement with cross-functional stakeholders
  • A track record of driving company-wide projects from ideation to completion through strong project and stakeholder management skills
  • A problem solving mindset, are agile and able to iterate, proposing creative solutions and pushing past ambiguity and roadblocks where needed
  • Strong analytical skills and detail orientation, with an ability to use data and research to create compelling business cases and inform evidence-based decision making
  • Experience in sustainability / impact / ESG reporting, including data collection, assurance and emissions measurement using the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol. Any familiarity with integrated reporting within financial filings is a plus but not essential.
  • Knowledge of anti-greenwashing regulations (e.g. UK Green Claims Code)
  • Experience in the fashion industry and / or working for a consumer facing brand

Preferred but not essential experience:

  • Experience of working within a tech organisation
  • Impact valuation knowledge (incl. lifecycle analysis)
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion experience applied to external community (rather than HR) and social innovation knowledge
