Data is at the heart of what we do.

Depop is looking for a Data Platform Engineer to join our growing team! Our platform receives 10,000’s of requests every second; we’re looking to cut through the noise, leverage this vast data, and find value.

We’re building scalable and robust systems to harvest, process and analyse the vast data within our tech ecosystem. With an increasing demand to service other areas of the business, and ultimately our 16 million users, you’ll be at the forefront of pioneering Data-as-a-Service.

Responsibilities

You’ll be...

  • Building out our data infrastructure, in terms of scalability and availability
  • Working on projects centred around real-time streaming with Kafka
  • The go to person for questions about data infrastructure, mentoring other team members in terms of best practices
  • Designing, writing and delivering software that enables data engineers to focus on solving core business problems
  • Interacting with internal members of the Depop team to solve business problems

Qualifications

You will have…

  • Deep understanding of AWS infrastructure
  • Experience using infrastructure as code
  • Experience building Kafka infrastructure and its tooling ecosystem
  • Demonstrated a keen interest in data engineering and a track record of implementing data platforms at scale
  • Experience with docker and orchestration
  • Technical expertise with data processing technologies
  • Experience working on large scale distributed systems design and operation
  • Experience in data processing and building data pipelines
  • Experience building and maintaining data lake in AWS
  • A willingness to deliver user value quickly with quality
  • A security first mindset

Technologies and Tools

  • AWS - MSK, Lambda, Kinesis, Redshift, EC2, IAM, VPC and more
  • Kubernetes
  • Experience with using Terraform to design and implement infrastructure as code
  • Kafka
  • Scala
  • Python
  • Go
  • Shell scripting and related tooling
  • Good working understanding of continuous integration/deployment tools and practices
  • In-depth knowledge of modern Linux systems internals (kernel, filesystems, network stack, systemd)
  • Experience operating Postgres or another major RDBMS
  • Solid networking theory (TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, IP packets, DNS)
