About Cool Farm Alliance:

The Cool Farm Alliance is a science-led, not-for profit community interest company that brings together the agriculture supply-chain network on a global scale. It occupies the space where three nodes converge: Agriculture, Commerce, and Knowledge. The Cool Farm Alliance growing membership includes many of the world’s leading food and beverage companies, NGOs, academic institutions, farmer groups and agronomists. Cool Farm Alliance members share the need for a respected, consistent, standardised, independent calculation engine and have joined the Alliance to ensure the Cool Farm Platform meets this need, now and in the future. Building connections, as well as leveraging and sharing knowledge, is key to this platform.

Internship Overview:

We are offering an exciting internship opportunity for a student passionate about sustainability and science. This position is designed to provide hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, carbon, and GHG reporting.

We are looking for someone to support a specific science project at Cool Farm, contributing to our efforts in making farming part of the solution to climate change. The exact project will depend on the interns skills and interests, but will contribute to the development of our new GHG calculator the Cool Farm Platform. This platform assists farmers in transitioning to sustainable practices and models on farm GHG footprints. Tasks will involve developing the equations and methods to model GHG emissions, coding, user interface design, and user testing.

You will be coached and supported by our science and methods manager and supported by the full Cool Farm secretariat.

We actively invite applications from individuals represented by the criteria for broader participation outlined below, reflecting our dedication to enhancing diversity and inclusion and expanding opportunities in sustainability and environmental science careers.

As this role can be fully remote, the internship can be adapted to your requirements for example allowing part-time hours, or to be fully based working from home. We aim to create flexibility in the role to suit our colleagues' needs.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of tools for carbon and GHG reporting.
  • Lead a project developing updated emission factors or methodology for our GHG calculator
  • Collaborate with the science team on project design and implementation.

    Eligibility:
  • Open to undergraduate students or recent graduates (graduated in the last 12 months) from all scientific disciplines, including ecology, modelling, mathematics, and computer science.
  • A strong interest in sustainability and environmental science.
  • Ideally based in Kent for in-person mentoring and collaboration, but virtual participation is available.
  • Must be based in and eligible to work in the UK. Eligibility checks will be undertaken.
  • Application Process:
We are striving to make this application process as accessible as possible. In the interest of accommodating diverse backgrounds and abilities, if you require any accommodations or assistance during the application process, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Additionally, as we would like to assess your writing skills, this application is written-based.
