An opportunity to play your part – If successful in this role of Category Portfolio Specialist, your primary objective is to create and implement a Category strategy through collaboration with stakeholders and Category leaders to carry out procurement initiatives that result in the most favourable commercial results for Centrica.

The day to day

  • Engage with business stakeholders to formulate a procurement activity schedule, considering new business needs, corporate strategy, emerging risks, and expiring supplier contracts.
  • Utilize a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics (employing tools such as Porters Five Forces and Kraljic) and cost determinants specific to the goods, services, or technology under consideration to devise the category strategy.
  • Develop go-to-market strategies in conjunction with business stakeholders.
  • Assume a leadership role in procurement tenders aligned with the category strategy.
  • Take the lead in commercial negotiations.
  • Spearhead the drafting and negotiation of contracts, collaborating with Commercial Legal and specialist legal teams.
  • Establish Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) activities in accordance with Centrica's SRM framework.
  • Oversee the contract governance process in collaboration with business stakeholders (Group Contracts Committee).
  • Manage risks in partnership with specialized risk teams.
  • Effectively manage and optimize the supplier base within the category, encompassing procurement channels and the category playbook to facilitate tactical sourcing.
  • Foster collaboration throughout the Procurement Function to ensure an optimal experience for stakeholders.

  • Strategic mindset and the capability to elucidate how the category strategy aligns with business requirements.
  • Extensive expertise in navigating complex market dynamics.
  • Skilled in commercial operations and adept at negotiation.
  • Proficient in supplier management, ensuring the continuity of value through negotiation and sourcing.
  • Proficiency in stakeholder management and negotiation.
  • Capable of exerting influence without formal authority.
  • Proficient in managing superiors and upper management.
