Centrica Energy is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade power, gas, LNG, and energy attributes and we connect producers, suppliers and offtakers in the wholesale energy markets – and we provide our clients with the best route-to-market services available to the market today with physical and financial settlement approaches. We’re a total of 850+ colleagues from over 50 different nations, located in 8 different offices around the world. At our London office, where this role is located, you’ll be joining our international office with over 300 dedicated energy specialists.
In line with Centrica Energy’s strategy of growth, diversification of earnings and developing nascent energy value chains, the Principal Investments & Strategic Partnerships team seeks to create scale in the existing business areas and to expand in nascent areas of the energy ecosystem. This can be achieved by developing new business models, creating partnerships, taking minority or majority stakes in companies, or through acquisitions, investments, or structured commodity transactions. The focus within the team is on leveraging the existing Centrica Energy platform to create new revenue streams and to expand Centrica Energy’s product suite and market reach.
This is an exciting opportunity to join as Principal Investments & Commodity Structuring Manager and play a key part in how we continue to evolve, shape and grow the Centrica Energy business. The job will focus within the following areas:
Corporate business development
Identification of strategic thematic areas
Deal origination, structuring, and execution
Structured commodity transactions
Target valuation using a variety of valuation techniques
Contract negotiation
Internal stakeholder management and alignment.
The role is based out of our central London office (close to Marble Arch) with c. 3 days per week typically based within the office.
What you’ll be doing:
Identify market opportunities for Centrica Energy in established and nascent areas of the energy value chain, taking into account the industry competitive environment and analysing evolving regulatory changes and identifying associated risks across Europe
Work with the individual commercial areas of the Centrica Energy to identify prospective opportunities for additional value creation by selectively deploying (equity) capital
Engage with financial, industry advisors and counterparts to generate and pursue business leads aligned with the strategic objectives of Centrica Energy and Centrica Plc
Structure the physical and financial elements of asset purchases and / or sales with a view of optimising the Centrica Energy portfolio, whilst ensuring efficient use of balance sheet and risk capital
Work collaboratively with other parts of the Centrica Group to ensure strategic alignment of objectives, appropriate socialisation, and creating of adjacent opportunities in other business units
Provide risk mitigation strategies, hedging exposure and provide more complex structured finance solutions where applicable in order to create value accretive outcomes.
We have a few must-haves:
High level of financial and numerical literacy, with financial qualification such as CFA or similar desirable
Experience from working in corporate finance, advisory, transaction services, investment banking or commodity sales, structuring or trading
Experience of front-office and/or client-facing role with a focus on business development, corporate development, origination, sales and/or structuring
Transaction-related experience throughout the deal life cycle, ideally in the energy, hydrogen and/or renewables industries
Ability to draft, amend and negotiate contracts with the help of the Legal and other functional teams
Excellent knowledge of various corporate valuation and financial modelling techniques
Proven ability to influence key stakeholders, both internally and externally
Proven track record in working collaboratively across teams/business lines, geographies, languages and cultures
Curious self-starter with a passion for the energy industry
Entrepreneurial and nimble with a growth mindset and proven agility and ability to adapt to fast-changing market dynamics
Solid grasp of shareholder / business value creation
Able and willing to work in a multi-cultural, matrix environment.
