LNG Strategic Projects and Portfolio Manager
Centrica Energy (CE) is the energy trading arm of Centrica PLC, comprising c.900 FTE across the UK, Europe and Singapore. CE specialises in connecting the supply and demand of energy, leveraging our core skill-sets in trading, optimisation and commodity risk management. CE’s core commercial areas comprise Gas & Power Trading (UK and continental Europe), Renewable Energy Trading & Optimisation (UK and continental Europe), and Global LNG Trading.
Our Global LNG Trading business specialises in connecting global supply and demand of LNG through accessing export volumes through offtake agreements, shipping LNG to demand centres (Europe, Asia), managing contractual flexibility within the portfolio to manage risk and extract incremental value, and taking trading positions based on market view.
The LNG business is currently moving into its next phase of growth and portfolio building. This requires clear definition of the growth strategy and risk appetite. Given the size of the business, there is an opportunity to improve coordination across the portfolio and develop individual projects linking different areas or products with our LNG portfolio. Delivery of these is critical to the success of the business in delivering against its growth potential and the growth expected of it by the Board.
The LNG Strategic Projects and Portfolio Manager is a critical role in the LNG business, working closely with the Global Head of LNG, the LNG Leadership Team, the LNG teams (Operations, Business Development, Trading Analytics, Energy Transition) and key stakeholders across Centrica Energy, including the CE MD, CE Strategy, and the COO, DTS, Hydrogen unit, Risk and Finance Functions. The role will ensure that critical enabling initiatives for the LNG Front Office are prioritised and delivered.
About the Role:
Working with relevant stakeholders to develop and maintain the LNG Strategy within Centrica Energy as a live deliverable that is suitable for dissemination to senior Centrica stakeholders, up to and including Board Level, upon requests for updates
Working with the LNG Leadership team to develop and maintain the Centrica Energy LNG narrative
Work closely with the Global Head of LNG and the LNG Leadership Team to improve and embed team governance and ways of working, including performing the role of Secretary to the LNG Leadership Team Meeting
Work with the Risk Function on the improvement of the LNG Risk Framework across Market, Credit and Liquidity Risk
Liaise with the LNG Business Manager (COO Team) to ensure that Centrica Energy processes and LNG processes are fit for purpose to support the growth of the LNG business
Supported by the Global Head of LNG and the LNG Leadership team, work on the delivery of specific growth projects
Work with the Principal Investment department in Centrica Energy to analyse and pursue inorganic growth opportunities within the LNG and Energy Transition areas
Liaise with the LNG Business Manager (COO Team) to coordinate new product introductions and deal approvals as appropriate
Become a key agent for driving a long lasting culture of business partnership and reciprocal support between the LNG Front Office and supporting stakeholders across Centrica Energy and the Group
About You:
LNG market knowledge and previous experience, or, at least experience in energy is required for this role
A background in Management Consulting, particularly Strategy Consulting, would be beneficial for this role
Experience in a trading environment would be beneficial or, failing that, a demonstrable ability to learn quickly
A curious, inquisitive and problem-solving mindset, comfortable with dealing with ambiguity
Strong drive and self-motivation with the ability to structure their workflow with limited input from above
A “can do” attitude and bias for action
The ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve the desired outcomes, including where stakeholders may have a different perspective or agenda. This may require a mixture of assertiveness, partnership, collaboration and a willingness to educate and bring stakeholders on a journey
Patience and persistence, when it appears that multiple hurdles stand between the current situation and delivery of the desired outcomes
An excellent communicator, with the ability to synthesis diverse, complex information and present in a professional and easy to understand format, with a clear narrative
The ability to prepare business presentations and papers to Board-level standard
A strategic mindset, and experience of working on the development and presentation of business strategy, including in the form of PowerPoint slides
