Job Description

Intellectual Property Analyst

Centrica has an exciting opportunity for an Intellectual Property (IP) Analyst. This is a strategically important role.

We are a uniquely integrated energy company. We make it, store it, move it, sell it and mend it.

As we look to the future, Centrica has a crucial role in the energy transition, we have committed to investing between £600m to £800m a year until 2028 in renewable generation, security of supply, and our customers. We can add value for customers, colleagues, communities and shareholders.

In our crucial role in the energy transition we are seeking an Intellectual Property Analyst to join our Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Ethics & Compliance and Secretariat Function (LRECS). LRECS focusses on providing a diverse and inclusive environment with a strong emphasis on wellbeing and delivering opportunities for growth and personal development.

Location: We work flexibly in line with our Flexible First working arrangements believing that empowered colleagues are happier and more productive. The successful candidate will, however, need to be comfortable commuting to our Windsor office (SL4 5GD) several times a month.

About the Role:

Centrica’s Intellectual Property team is the custodian of our intellectual property assets. As the pace of change continues to accelerate, Centrica is responding by developing technology to help businesses and households use energy more efficiently and sustainably. Implementing technology and protecting it gives us a competitive advantage.

The Intellectual Property team is small but agile consisting of two people. We have a presence with many diverse teams across the Group. As an Intellectual Property Analyst, you will provide professional and technical support to colleagues to identify, protect, enforce, and manage Centrica’s valuable intellectual property assets.

  • Support the Intellectual Property Counsel to develop and implement a Group IP Strategy, IP Risk Register, and IP Policies.

  • Work collaboratively with our colleagues to understand our strategic direction and business objectives to provide intellectual property support.

  • Record, manage, and maintain innovation and intellectual property rights developed across the Group or acquired.

  • Coordinate intellectual property landscaping and competitor analysis to maintain the exclusivity of our intellectual property.

  • Develop and maintain internal systems, dashboards, and reports, to communicate and promote the value and importance of the intellectual property activities across the Group.

  • Work closely with external intellectual property firms to maintain and manage Centrica’s patent, design and trade mark portfolio.

  • Communicate and raise awareness of intellectual property across the Group.

About You:

  • Experience in an IP role.

  • An excellent listener who can identify and elicit relevant information from stakeholders to enable informed decision making.

  • Curious and technically astute.

  • Attention to detail with capability to analyse large volumes of information to inform decision-making.

  • Able to understand and articulate complex topics.

  • Effective in mediating between disciplines and technical departments.

  • Ability to conduct research.

  • Able to manage a varied workload with conflicting priorities.

  • Ability to establish a high level of professional and personal credibility.

  • Excellent organisational, written, and oral communication skills.

Our customers come from all walks of life, and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. We will continue to champion inclusivity, develop future skills and invest in our local communities to create a better, more sustainable world, for everyone.

#MoreThanACareer

At Centrica we embrace diversity and actively seek to attract individuals with unique backgrounds and perspectives. To build a more sustainable future, we need the best team – a team with a diverse mix of people and skills, where everyone feels welcome and able to succeed. We are dedicated in helping to close the diversity gap and would love to see more females, people of colour and LGBTQ+ employees, as well as those from a variety of cultures and ethnicity to veterans and the differently abled. Supporting diversity and inclusion is a big part of who we are, we are not looking for people to fit into our culture but to add to it!
