GBS Data Scientist

Group Business Services (GBS) is looking to hire an experienced Data Scientist to join our Data Solutions Team, adding to and evolving our existing data science capabilities.
Within GBS we provide a shared service solution to many areas within the business including HR, Metering, Procurement and Supply Chain.

As part of this role, the individual will be responsible for identifying insights from various data sources, as well as communicating these findings and related solutions to business managers, service managers, and product teams.

The Day to Day:

  • Identify opportunities to deploy data science to business challenges.
  • Gather and extracting key requirements, investigate solutions, and generate feasibility reports with accurate estimates of timelines for delivery.
  • Implement your solutions within your defined timeline.
  • Working in collaboration with wider support services and teams across the business to deploy solutions.
  • Partner with key internal and external stakeholders to understand problem statements and collaborate on suitable end point solutions.
  • Applying data science methodologies (modelling, feature engineering, data extraction and time series etc).
  • Bringing conceptual ideas and solutions to fruition.
  • Presenting solutions effectively to decision makers to enable deployment.

About You:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on solution development.
  • Strong collaboration, stakeholder management and engagement.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets is essential.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to make complex information accessible to the relevant audience.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques is essential.
  • Project management from concept to delivery, exploiting existing and developing robust methodologies.
  • Interrogate code/project documentation material effectively.
  • Understand programming errors and identify solutions.
  • Work both independently and within a pair-programming paradigm.
  • Create meaningful code and project documentation (Docstring, UML Diagrams, Entity Relationship Diagrams).
  • Prior experience with Azure Cloud Services (AzureML, DataBricks, DataFactory, LogicApps) preferred.
  • Experience with HiveQL, Apache Spark, and ODBC or equivalent.
