
Job Description
We're looking for a brilliant Finance Manager to join us and support the Residential Energy business, where British Gas is the leading supplier by market share of Gas & Electricity. This offers a fantastic opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a complex and exciting area, during a period of large-scale change with the migration of customers from SAP to Ensek.
- You will work closely with the Senior Finance Manager Energy Margin with a primary focus on Commodity cost P&L reporting, forecasting and analysis. Key to ensuring success in this role will be building strong working relationships both within and outside of Finance, for example, with the Pricing, Energy Supply & Hedging, Demand Forecasting and Financial Control teams.
- You’ll lead the Energy Commodities team with one direct report and responsibility for the production of Gas & Power commodity cost forecasts for Residential Margin (c. £7bn p.a), along with the delivery of high-quality performance reporting including ad hoc analysis.
- Key to the role is the ownership and co-ordination of all forecasting updates ensuring these are consistent and accurate, and also accompanied by clear supporting analysis that can be used for upwards reporting (e.g. weekly hedging and monthly cost review meetings). In addition, the role will be accountable for ensuring the integrity of financial results as well as supporting hedging strategy decisions.
- The successful applicant will be expected to develop deep knowledge of the commodities markets and drive efficiency and simplification of processes to create greater capacity in the team for insight.
Location
With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. You will be expected to travel to Windsor maybe once a week, but the role is primarily based from home.

To thrive in this role strong experience of FP&A in a large organisation including analysis, insight and communicating this across the business is required as is building economic and financial models, creating robust forecasting and budgeting & evidence of a track record of process improvement. You will also need to be able to demonstrate experience of leading a team.
In addition:
Hold an Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
Able to lead through a period of change, working flexibly for the good of the business & are motivated by continuous improvement and high-quality output.
Excellent communicator with strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex financial analysis into commercial insight.
Expertise in developing and maintaining large models and analysing data.
Develops an understanding of the business in order to translate operational drivers into accurate accounts and reports.
Ability to pro-actively develop positive and highly effective working relationships, engaging key senior stakeholders as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to effectively challenge the business.
Comfortable with manipulating large quantities of data to provide insight (e.g. in Excel, Power BI, Cognos TM1)
