That’s why we need a brilliant Electrical Design Engineer to help us get to where we’re going. You’ll bring bags of energy, know-how and passion to our family of door-opening brands, including British Gas and Hive. And you’ll join a team who are just as focused delivering on fantastic results as you are.

In this role, you will undertake detailed network design, planning and quotations of LV/HV networks associated with the construction and installation of new electricity contestable infrastructure, connections, and diversions. You will liaise with the siteworks design and planning team, service providers, DNO, IDNOs and housing developers to ascertain the most optimum economical and engineering infrastructure solution for our customers.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare design proposals and quotations.
  • Planning, design and co-ordination of projects for the company’s electric distribution networks and metering installations, in compliance with all company, financial, statutory, legal, engineering and HS&E requirements.
  • Assess design variations.
  • Liaise with Developers, clients and contractors; determine client requirements.
  • Effectively use management information and readily make value and cost driven decisions which improve customer, employee and commercial performance
  • Responsibility for the technical compliance of electrical network design to meet the client’s requirements, ensuring they satisfy company quality requirements, they are compliant with current DNO/IDNO policy, ENA Documentation, CDM Regulation, Codes of Practice, National/International Standards and legislation, company policy/procedures and contract specification, including safety compliance, as appropriate.
  • Supporting the Quotation Team and where required provide outline designs.

Who are we looking for?

  • Experience with an IDNO or DNO in designing individually tailored HV/LV electrical network design solutions and earthing assessments for LV and HV distribution networks for domestic, commercial, and industrial developments.
  • Knowledge of obtaining approval for individually tailored network design solutions including power distribution earthing.
  • Suitable engineering qualification (BEng Degree/HND or equivalent) with electrical engineering modules.
  • Professional Membership of a recognised engineering institution such as the IET, preferably at Incorporated Engineer [IEng] level would be desirable.
  • Good understanding of the UK power industry including technical standards DNO/IDNO network construction requirements, including a knowledge of G81 documents.
