Job Description

Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it.

We’ve been powering the UK’s homes and businesses for over 200 years – but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We’re making the UK greener and more energy efficient, getting closer to Net Zero. By using clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we’re making it cheaper and easier for our customers to reduce their carbon-footprint.

About your role:

Join us as a Gas Installations Engineer and help create a greener, fairer future. We’re looking for people with a desire to learn, natural curiosity, and a commitment to doing great work - whatever your background.

Our award‑winning academies are designed to help you succeed. You’ll build your skills and confidence through hands‑on learning, gaining recognised qualifications while working on energy‑efficient heating systems that make a real difference in people’s homes. With support from experienced engineers, you’ll learn how to deliver quality work with care, professionalism, and pride.

This is a practical, people‑focused role where no two days are the same. You’ll solve problems, work alongside supportive teammates, and become a trusted presence in customers’ homes and communities. You’ll also play an important part in helping homes become more energy‑efficient and reducing carbon emissions.

If you’re looking for a career with purpose, progression and hands‑on learning – and want to be supported as you grow – this could be the right step for you.

Here's what we’re looking for:

  • 4 GCSEs (or Scottish Nat 5's) at grade C/4 or above, ideally including Maths and English, or equivalent qualification.

  • A CV that shows your enthusiasm for learning a hands‑on trade, a natural mechanical or technical interest, and a genuine commitment to delivering great customer service.

  • A full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.

  • Availability to attend training at our UK-wide academies, with provided accommodation and travel if needed.

  • This is a physical role involving lifting, bending and working at height and in confined spaces, including handling heavy equipment such as boilers and radiators.

Here’s what's in it for you:

  • A starting salary of £19,307 which will continue to rise as you hit specific milestones during your apprenticeship.

  • Once you have completed the full programme and aftercare support your salary will increase to £45,806 with bonus and add ons on top.

  • We also offer London Weighting Allowance ranging from £4,327 to £6,490 (dependant on location) for living or starting your day within London.

  • An expensed electric van for you to use for work, including an EV charge point where applicable & charge card.

Between now and the end of 2026, we are building future talent across the following locations. Some areas will be reviewed later in the year, so thank you for your patience. We really do value your application.
