Job Description

Canopy was founded in 2015 with the aim of providing Formula One quality simulation technology to motorsport teams all over the world. We are natively remote, flexible, and agile in our approach to building advanced cloud-based simulation technology. Our platform combines high-performance simulations with a modern web portal for visualisation and data access, enabling our customers to model and analyse complex vehicle dynamics at both the finest details and on the largest scales.

As we continue to grow, we’re looking for our first DevOps Engineer to own and improve our existing cloud infrastructure, automation pipelines, and deployment processes as well as creating new ones.

The Role
As our first and only DevOps Engineer, you’ll take ownership of our DevOps strategy and implementation across both our simulation and web platform environments.
You’ll work with a multidisciplinary engineering team to design scalable Azure infrastructure, evolve our existing CI/CD pipelines, and introduce infrastructure-as-code practices to improve automation, reliability, and deployment consistency. There's also the opportunity to get hands-on with the deployment of our high-performance cross-platform C++ simulation tools in both realtime and SAAS environments.
This is a hands-on, senior role — ideal for someone who enjoys building reliable systems from the ground up with minimal supervision.
You'll be reporting directly to our Technical Director and Platform Lead with the ability to use your skills to guide our long-term relationship with DevOps and infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Infrastructure ownership: Design, build, and maintain scalable Azure cloud infrastructure for both simulation and web systems.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Introduce and standardise IaC (Terraform, Bicep, or Pulumi) to manage infrastructure consistently across environments.
- CI/CD: Enhance and maintain Azure Pipelines for build, test, and deployment workflows across simulation and portal components.
- Observability: Manage and extend Application Insights, Log Analytics, and other Azure Monitor tools for metrics, logging, and alerting.
- Security & reliability: Implement best practices for cloud security, secrets management, backups, and disaster recovery.
- Collaboration: Work closely with software engineers and vehicle performance engineers to optimise build processes and runtime environments.
- Scalability: Design compute environments for simulations that can dynamically scale to meet performance and cost requirements.
- Process leadership: Define and document DevOps standards, practices, and tooling for the organisation.

Requirements
- 5+ years of DevOps / SRE / Cloud Infrastructure Engineering experience.
- Proven experience managing Azure environments, including networking, resource management, and identity/security.
- Strong proficiency with Azure Pipelines tools.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or similar).
- Solid experience with Linux administration and containerisation (ideally Docker).
- Experience with monitoring and observability using Application Insights, Log Analytics, or similar tools.
- Understanding of networking, security, and cost optimisation in the cloud.
- Experience supporting data-intensive or simulation workloads is a strong plus.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and self-management skills.

Nice to Have
- Experience with HPC or batch job orchestration (e.g., Azure Batch, Kubernetes Jobs).
- Experience with cross-platform C++ deployments in CI/CD pipelines; commercial CMake experience is a significant advantage
- Familiarity with real-time or embedded operating systems (RTOS) such as QNX.
- Knowledge of Python or Bash scripting for automation.

Why Join Us

- Shape the DevOps culture, tooling, and architecture from the ground up.
- Work with a talented engineering team solving complex cloud-simulation challenges.
- Build automation and reliability systems that directly influence our product’s success.

Please email recruitment@canopysimulations.com with your (max) two page CV and a short cover note telling us about yourself, and why you’d be a good fit for the role. Successful candidates will be invited to an initial interview over Teams. Further stages include a coding task and a technical interview.
